Week 13 TCU Sports Athletics News Summary



Women's Basketball: TCU women's basketball coach Raegan Pebley signed Tavy Diggs (Richardson, Texas) and Maddi Puli (Werribee, Victoria, Australia) to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, November 14, the first day of the NCAA's early signing period. Diggs and Puli will join the Horned Frogs as true freshmen for the 2019-20 season. A 6-foot-2 guard, Diggs comes to TCU from Plano East High School. She is rated as a 4-star recruit by Prospects Nation. ESPN Hoopgurlz lists her as the 18th-best wing in this year's recruiting class. Puli, a 6-foot-2 guard/forward is one of the top players in Australia and is currently playing her representative basketball for the Dandenong Rangers u18 squad. She is also a developmental player for the Jayco Rangers WNBL team. She has also represented Australia internationally, winning a gold medal with the national team at the 2017 U17 Oceania Championship in Guam where she averaged 14 points, 6 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. She was the team's top scorer against the Marshall Islands with 27 points.

Football:
TCU linebacker/defensive end Ty Summers has been named a semifinalist for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award, the first college football honor to focus primarily on a player's leadership on and off the field. Summers, who reportedly is out for the remainder of the season due to injury, has 314 career tackles, which ranks third among TCU players in the 18-season tenure of head coach Gary Patterson and are seventh nationally among active players in a Power 5 program.

Football: Thirteen TCU football student-athletes have received 2018 Academic All-Big 12 recognition. Eight Frogs were first-team honorees: Austi Ahrendt, Nate Guyton, Grayson Muehlstein, Cole Novak, Adam Nunez, Karson Ringdahl, Jonathan Song and Ty Summers. Five Frogs were second-team honoreers: Cole Bunce, Michael Collins, Trey Elliott, Ryan Martin and Patric Zeller.

Women's Basketball: Kianna Ray scored a career-high 20 points and had six assists as the TCU women's basketball team beat SMU, 65-63, at Schollmaier Arena on Sunday, November 18. The Frogs improved to 3-0. TCU next plays in the San Diego State University Thanksgiving Basketball Classic. The Horned Frogs will play BYU on Friday, November 23, then play San Diego State on Saturday, November 24. Both games will tip off at 9:15 pm CT. 

Men's Basketball: TCU men's basketball has signed Francisco Farabello, PJ Fuller and Diante Smith to the 2019-20 incoming class. The class is ranked the third best in the Big 12 and 15th in the country according to 247Sports.com. Farabello is a 6-2 guard from Argentina and plays for the NBA Global Academy in Canberra, Australia. Farabello is a four-star recruit according to 247Sports.com and ranked No. 93 in the 2019 class. Fuller is a 6-4 guard from Seattle, Washington, and is ranked as the 63rd best overall prospect in the nation and the sixth best shooting guard according to 247Sports.com. The four-star player averaged 17.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game last season as a junior at Garfield High School. Fuller will play his senior season at Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada. Smith is a 6-6 forward from Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and averaged 17.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists last season as a junior at Choctawhatchee High School. He's a four-star recruit according to 247Sports.com and is rated No. 96 in the 2019 class.

Men's Basketball:
After rising to 18th in the Associated Press rankings, the TCU men's basketball team promptly was embarrassed in a home loss, 73-64, to an unranked Lipscomb team that almost to a man was more talented, physical and motivated than the Horned Frogs.
It was the Frogs' first loss in November since 2015. TCU dropped to 3-1. The Frogs' next game is on Monday, November 26, at home, against unranked Eastern Michigan, at 7 pm CT. They also play at home on Friday, November 30, against unranked Central Michigan, at 6:30pm CT. TCU plays at SMU on Wednesday, December 5. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU. Tipoff is scheduled for 9 pm CT.

Women's Rifle: The No. 6 ranked TCU Rifle team handed No. 3 Alaska its first loss of the season, topping the Nanooks, 4,690-4,649. The Horned Frogs picked up their second conference win (2-0) and moved to 44-7 in home matches since the 2009-10 season. As a team, TCU posted a score of 2,322 in smallbore and 2,368 in air rifle. The Frogs remain undefeated in the air rifle discipline this season. After their win over Alaska, the Frogs dominated No. 11 ranked Ohio State, to move to 3-0 in the conference. TCU's team score of 4,719 is the eighth best in program history. TCU posted a season-best score of  2,334 in smallbore and a program-record 2,385 in air rifle. This is the second time this season that the Frogs have broken the air rifle record.

Women's Volleyball: elan McCall was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for her play during the week of November 12. McCall's double honors by the league office is the 11th time in conference history a rookie has won two in one week and the seventh student-athlete to accomplish the feat. The rookie becomes the second TCU student-athlete to win both awards in one week after fellow freshman Katie Clark earned both on October 8. McCall becomes the eighth player in conference history to win Rookie of the Week five times in a season. McCall also became the first player in TCU volleyball history to be named Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week and VolleyMob Player of the Week. Besides this being the first national honor for a TCU volleyball player in program history, McCall becomes the 41st player in the Big 12 Conference to earn the AVCA national honor and the second this season.

Women's Tennis: Ellie Douglas, a blue chip recruit from McKinney, Texas, and Addy Guevara, a five-star recruit from Keller, Texas, have signed with the Horned Frogs' women's tennis team. Douglas, a blue chip recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net, played solely on the pro circuit the last year. She played in the US Open and French Open in 2016 and the US Open, French Open and Wimbledon in 2017. She advanced to the quarterfinals in doubles and the Round of 16 in singles at Wimbledon and made the quarterfinals in doubles in 2017 at the French Open.  Guevara, a  five-star recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net, ranks as the No. 58 recruit nationally and the No. 2 ranked recruit in the Gulf States and Texas.

Baseball: John DiLaura has joined the baseball coaching staff as the volunteer assistant coach. DiLaura, a 2013 alum of the University of Michigan, spent the past season as the volunteer assistant at his alma mater. This past fall he served as an assistant coach at Xavier. Prior to returning to Michigan, DiLaura spent two years with the Chipola College baseball program. In his final season with Chipola (2017), the Indians captured the NJCAA World Series title and compiled an overall record of 51-9. Following the 2017 season, the Indians had 10 players selected in the MLB Draft, which ranked second in the country. DiLaura spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. A three-year baseball letter-winner at the University of Michigan, DiLaura graduated in the spring of 2013. He completed a Master's Degree in Sports Administration from Wayne State University in the summer of 2016.
