Week 12 College Football News

Louisville Fires Petrino: Louisville has fired football coach Bobby Petrino, with the Cardinals 2-8 following a seven-game losing streak. This was Petrino's second stint at Louisville. The Cardinals lost at least four games in each of the past five seasons, as Petrino went 36-26. Petrino went 41-9 in four seasons at Louisville from 2003 to 2006 before leaving to coach the Atlanta Falcons for 10 games during the 2007 season. Petrino returned to Louisville in January 2014 when he signed a seven-year contract that paid $3.5 million annually. According to the terms of his contract, the school owes Petrino more than $14 million in a buyout. Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm reportedly is targeted by Louisville to replace Petrino. Brohm is a Louisville native and former Cardinals quarterback. He worked as a Louisville assistant from 2003 to 2008, serving as quarterbacks coach, assistant head coach and offensive coordinator. Earlier this year, Brohm signed a two-year contract extension with Purdue through the 2024 season.

The previous Division I record, regardless of subdivision, came in 1988, when Oklahoma rushed for 768 yards against Kansas. Against San Diego, Davidson had 852 yards of total offense. San Diego totaled 625 yards of offense. The combined total of 1,477 yards fell 72 shy of the FCS single-game record (1,549). San Diego quarterback Anthony Lawrence threw a school-record seven touchdown passes. San Diego receiver Michael Bandy had a school-record 324 receiving yards.
