College Football News

Les Miles Hired as Kansas Football Coach: Les Miles has been hired as the new football coach at Kansas. He replaces David Beaty, who was fired earlier in the season but agreed to coach through the end of the season. Miles led LSU to the 2007 national title, after building a consistent winner at Oklahoma State. Miles has a close relationship with Kansas Athletic Director Jeff Long. They were together at Michigan. With only a game against Texas on Friday in Lawrence, Beaty has a 6-31 record in three-plus seasons with the Jayhawks. Miles has been out of coaching since 2016, when he was fired by LSU after a 2-2 start that left him with a 114-34 record with the Tigers. Miles won at least 10 games in seven of his 11 full seasons at LSU and twice reached the national title game. He and the Tigers beat Ohio State for the 2007 championship. Miles was offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State from 1995 to 1997. He was the Oklahoma State head coach from 2001 to 2004, after coaching tight ends for the Dallas Cowboys from  1998-2000. Oklahoma State posted a losing record (4–7) in Miles's first season at the helm, but achieved winning records during each of the following three seasons; 8–5, 9–4, and 7–5. His last three seasons at Oklahoma State ended in invitations to the Houston, Cotton, and Alamo Bowls, respectively.

No Bull in Kansas: Bevo XV, Texas' mascot, won't be on the field for Friday's game between Texas (8-3) and Kansas (3-8) in Lawrence. The Jayhawks have a rule prohibiting live mascots. Bevo will miss the action for a Thanksgiving week game for just the second time in 73 years, according to the school. A win would put the Longhorns in the Big 12 championship game against either Oklahoma or West Virginia. Texas has not won a Big 12 title since 2009.

New Bowl Game for 2019:
There will be a Myrtle Beach Bowl in 2020, thanks to ESPN Events. The bowl will be affiliated with Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, and the Sun Belt Conference. The addition of the bowl tentatively will bring the FBS bowl count to 40.
