TCU-Oklahoma Rivalry:

  • TCU and Oklahoma have played each other 18 times. The Frogs have won five of the games.
  • The first game in the series was a 34-19 Sooners' win in Oklahoma City in 1944.
  • TCU is 2-6 versus the Sooners in Fort Worth, 3-5 in Norman, 0-1 in Oklahoma City, and 0-1 in Arlington (2017 Big 12 Championship game);
  • The Frogs have lost four straight to Oklahoma. The most recent TCU victory over the Sooners was on October 4, 2014, when the Frogs won, 37-33, in Fort Worth. At the time, the Frogs were ranked 25th and Oklahoma was ranked fourth. The Frogs finished the regular season 11-1, tied with Baylor for the Big 12 Championship. Both the Frogs and Bears were left out of the College Football Playoffs. The sixth-ranked Frogs beat then ninth-ranked Ole Miss, 42-3, in the Peach Bowl.
  • In 2005, TCU won in Norman, 17-10, when Oklahoma was fifth-ranked (was TCU's first victory over an opponent ranked that high since a 6-0 decision at No. 1 Texas in 1961). With the win in Norman in 2005, TCU gave Oklahoma one of its eight home losses since 2001. The 10 points by Oklahoma in that 2005 contest marked the fewest for the Sooners in a home game under then head coach Bob Stoops.

TCU-Oklahoma Connections:
  • Over the last five seasons, Oklahoma (47-12, 32-7) and TCU (43-16, 27-12) have the Big 12's best overall and conference records.
  • TCU co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Sonny Cumbie and Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley were teammates during the spring and summer of 2003 at Texas Tech. Riley was a student assistant/offense during Cumbie's final two seasons (2003-04) as a player for the Red Raiders.
  • TCU has one player on its roster from Oklahoma: junior cornerback Keenan Reed (#4) of Tulsa.
  • Oklahoma has 41 players on its roster from Texas, including two from Fort Worth: freshman long snapper Jax Wilson (#53) of All Saints; and freshman wide receiver Jylon Robinson (#89) of All Saints.

TCU Notables:
  • Going into the Oklahoma game, TCU is No. 1 in the Big 12 in total defense, scoring defense, third-down defense, passing defense, passing efficiency defense and red-zone defense.
  • TCU limited Texas Tech, the nation's leader in total offense entering the game at 591.4 yards per game, to 353 yards. The Red Raiders were tied for seventh in scoring in the FBS at 48.4 points per game and were held to 17 points.
  • TCU is 111-5 under Patterson when allowing 17 points or less.
  • TCU is one of just five programs nationally to finish in the top 10 of the final polls at least three times in the last four seasons. The others are Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Oklahoma.
  • Patterson's 18 seasons as TCU's head coach are more than the combined tenures of the 11 other FBS head coaches in the state of Texas.
  • Under Patterson, TCU has posted seven top-10 finishes and 11 in the top 25. The Horned Frogs have won at least 11 games in 10 of the last 15 seasons.
  • Ten of TCU's 12 regular-season games this year are in Texas. The Horned Frogs will not leave the state until their first flight of the season, on October 26, for a game at Kansas on October 27. TCU will stay in the same Fort Worth hotel for nine of its 12 games.
  • TCU closes a three-game homestand when it hosts No. 9 Oklahoma Saturday at 11 a.m.
  • TCU is 38-13 in regular-season games following a loss under Gary Patterson.
  • TCU had an eight-game home winning streak snapped in last week's 17-14 loss to Texas Tech.
  • The Horned Frogs are 84-20 in 18 seasons under Patterson at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
