Week 10 TCU Sports, Athletics News Summary



Women's Golf: The TCU women's golf team recently won the Jim West Challenge in San Marcos, Texas, for its second straight tournament championship. TCU edged No. 20 Florida State by one stroke for the title. The Horned Frogs set a school record with their 54-hole score of 11-under 853. The previous mark was an 859 at the 2008 Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. Annika Clark and Sabrina Iqbal led TCU individually. Both tied for seventh. It's TCU's 20th tournament championship in 25 years under head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin and the first time it's captured back-to-back titles in her tenure. The Horned Frogs won the Mary S. Kauth Invitational in San Antonio earlier this month.

Women's Soccer: TCU and Texas Tech recently battled to a scoreless draw in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championships. The Red Raiders advanced to the semifinals on penalty kicks (5-3). TCU posted its 10th shutout of the season. TCU (12-4-3, 5-3-1 Big 12) will await to find out if it makes the NCAA Tournament when the field of 64 is announced on November 5.  

Rifle: The third-ranked TCU Horned Frogs shot the top eight aggregate scores in a recent victory over the VMI men's and women's squads, extending their regular-season winning streak to 12 matches. The Frogs host second-ranked West Virginia at the TCU Rifle Range on November 10.

Volleyball: The TCU volleyball team recently lost at Texas Tech, 3-0 (26-24, 25-11, 25-23). The Frogs dropped to 12-9, 4-6 Big 12. The Frogs and the Red Raiders split the season series. The all-time series record is 10-10. TCU lost a match to #6 Texas, 3-1, in Austin on Wednesday, October 31. TCU dropped to 12-10, 4-7 Big 12. Texas swept the season series for the third straight season and the sixth time since the teams became conference foes. The Longhorns are 16-1 in the all-time series with TCU.

Women's Soccer: TCU's Yazmeen Ryan has been named to the Big 12 first team all-conference soccer team. The Frogs' Messiah Bright was named Co-Big 12 Freshman of the Year. She becomes the first TCU soccer athlete to earn a Player of the Year award. Karitas Tomasdottir and Maddy Warren were named to the all-conference second team. Bright and Warren were named to the All-Freshman squad.
