TCU-Texas Tech Rivalry:
- Thanks to M.L. Leddy’s Boots & Saddlery of Fort Worth, a longtime tradition was renewed last year in Lubbock when TCU and Texas Tech battled for the Saddle Trophy. It was won by the Horned Frogs, as they beat Tech 27-3. The Horned Frogs and Red Raiders used to compete annually in the West Texas Championship for the Saddle Trophy, before it went away in the early 1970s. The Saddle Trophy sits on a stand and includes the logos for TCU and Texas Tech. Scores for 60 years of the rivalry are represented on the Saddle Trophy Stand.
- TCU and Texas Tech have met on the gridiron in 60 games since 1926. From 1926 through 1955, TCU and Tech frequently played as non-conference opponents. Texas Tech and TCU were previously members of the Southwest Conference from 1960, until the conference's dissolution in 1995, a period during which the Red Raiders held a 21-12-3 advantage in games played between the two schools. After the dissolution of the SWC, the teams played a home-and-home series in 2004 and 2006. The home team won each time (Texas Tech in 2004, TCU in 2006). In 2012, TCU joined the Big 12 Conference and the teams renewed their annual rivalry.
- The Red Raiders hold an edge in the all-time series at 31–26–3. The series' three ties came in three consecutive games in Lubbock in 1979, 1981 and 1983. The series has featured many large margins of victory. Tech's largest victory was by 56 points, in a 63–7 victory on November 9, 1985, in Lubbock, and TCU's largest victory was by 55 points, in a 82–27 victory in Fort Worth on October 25, 2014. The Frogs and Raiders have only met twice with both teams ranked in the top 25, in 2006 and 2012. Both games were played in Fort Worth and won by the higher-ranked team (TCU by a score of 12–3 in 2006 and Tech by a 3OT score of 56–53 in 2012).
- TCU is 19-13 against Tech in Fort Worth and 7-18-3 against the Red Raiders in Lubbock. Since joining the Big 12, TCU is 3-3 versus Tech.
- TCU and Tech last played each other on a Thusday night in 2013, in Lubbck. Then 24th-ranked TCU lost to Tech, 20-10. Baker Mayfield was Tech's starting quarterback, but he had to be replaced in the game.
TCU-Texas Tech Connections:
- The Texas Tech roster has 34 players from DFWMetroplex schools, including two from Fort Worth: redshirt defensive lineman Mark Brown (#50), who is from Arlington Heights High School; and freshman wide receiver Erik Ezukanma (#84), who is from Timber Creek.
- The TCU roster has no players from Lubbock, and only two players from the west Texas area: redshirt freshman center Coy McMillon (#69), who is from Abilene; and senior defensive end L.J. Collier (#91), who is from Munday.
- Shawn Robinson's first start came last season against Texas Tech in Lubbock on November 18. The Frogs won, 27-3. The last true freshman to start at quarterback for TCU was Casey Printers, on September 25, 1999, at Arkansas State, a 24-21 Horned Frogs’ win. Patterson was in his second year as TCU’s defensive coordinator.
- Three members of TCU's staff have spent time at Texas Tech: TCU co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Sonny Cumbie came to the Horned Frogs after four seasons as an assistant coach at Texas Tech (2010-13). Cumbie was the Red Raiders' starting quarterback as a senior in 2004; TCU defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Chad Glasgow was Texas Tech's defensive coordinator in 2011; TCU offensive line coach Chris Thomsen served in the same capacity at Texas Tech in 2012.
- Texas Tech defensive backs coach Clay Jennings was TCU's cornerbacks coach from 2008-13.
- Among members of Texas Tech's coaching staff, offensive line coach Brandon Jones and outside receivers coach Emmett Jones hail from Dallas.
- The last two years, Texas Tech has held spring scrimmages at The Star in Frisco, the official team headquarters of the Dallas Cowboys.
