TCU's Robinson Out for Remainder of Season; Turpin Arrested, Dismissed from Team

TCU head football coach Gary Patterson has announced the following:

  • Starting quarterback Shawn Robinson (#3) will undergo shoulder surgery and is out for the remainder of the season. Backup quarterback Michael Collins, who replaced Robinson in the October 20 loss to Oklahoma, will make his first start this Saturday, October 27, against Kansas in Lawrence. Collins is a transfer from Penn.

  • Wide receiver KaVontae Turpin (#25), who also returns punts and kickoffs, has been dismissed from the team after being arrested on Sunday (October 21) on a charge of assault with bodily injury of a family member. Turpin was booked and subsequently released from Tarrant County Jail. An arrest affidavit details an alleged altercation between Turpin and his girlfriend late Saturday night (October 20). Turpin also had been previously arrested in March in Las Cruces, New Mexico, for battery of a household member. However, full details of that incident apparently had not been disclosed and/or known by TCU.

TCU released this statement about Turpin's arrest:“Texas Christian University is aware that one of its students was recently arrested for a reported domestic situation. The university takes these types of reports very seriously and is continuing to gather information to determine next steps.TCU expects its students to behave in an ethical manner, abide by campus policies and adhere to state and federal law. The student also may face a charge of violating the University Code of Student Conduct, the results of which are independent and separate from any legal charges."

TCU released this statement about the New Mexico incident: "The football staff was aware there was an incident in New Mexico, but not that charges included an alleged battery. The publicly available information they reviewed at the time only showed a charge related to property damage. We did not know until yesterday that his legal issues were unresolved."

About the New Mexico incident, TCU head football coach Gary Patterson said, "I'm not trying to cover anything up. Obviously, I wish I knew more."

TCU plays the University of Kansas at 2 pm in Lawrence on Saturday, October 27. The Frogs are 3-4, 1-3 Big 12.
