Game 5 of the 2019 TCU Football Season: TCU Horned Frogs visit Iowa State; Saturday, October 5, 2019, at 11 am (Central), Jack Trice Stadium, Ames, Iowa; TV: ESPN2 (TV talent: Roy Philpott, Kelly Stouffer, Lauren Sisler); Radio -- WBAP 820 AM, KTCU 88.7, Sirius 113, XM 200 (Radio Talent: Brian Estridge, John Denton, Landry Burdine); Spanish Radio: KFZO 99.1 (Radio Talent: Miguel Cruz, Elvis Gallegos).

ESPN College GameDay Week 6: ESPN GameDay will be in Gainesville, Florida, on Saturday, October 5, for the battle between No. 7 Auburn (5-0) and No. 10 Florida (5-0). The game kicks off at 2:30 pm (Central). The game will be broadcast by CBS. During the college football season, GameDay airs live on ESPN on Saturdays, from 8 to 11 am Central. GameDay features Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, David Pollack and Maria Taylor.

TCU's Previous Game: This is TCU’s ffifth game of the 2019 season. The Frogs' last game was a win over Kansas in Fort Worth, on September 28. TCU is 3-1 (1-0). TCU’s three wins have been over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Purdue and Kansas. The lone loss has been to SMU.

Iowa State's Previous Game: Iowa State opened Big 12 Conference play against Baylor in Waco, Texas, on Saturday, September 28.

Previous TCU-Iowa State Game: TCU beat Iowa State, 17-14, on September 29, 2018, in Fort Worth, Texas.

TCU-Iowa State Rivalry: 

  • Iowa State is the favorite. If the betting line holds, it would mark only the second time in 11 meetings that Iowa State has been favored against TCU. The Horned Frogs have been favored in eight of 10 all-time meetings between the schools since they first met in 1995. Iowa State was a 4-point favorite in 1998 and the 2005 meeting in the Houston Bowl was a pick'em. TCU leads the all-time series 8-2, including 5-2 since joining the Big 12. The Cyclones are 5-5 against the spread in the 10 games since 1995.
  • The last two meetings between TCU and Iowa State have been decided by a total of 10 points with the home team winning each contest. The Horned Frogs won 17-14 in Fort Worth last season, while the Cyclones took a 14-7 decision in Ames in 2017.
  • TCU and Iowa State will be meeting for the 11th time in their history.
  • TCU holds an 8-2 series lead, including a 5-2 advantage since beginning Big 12 play in 2012.
  • TCU is 3-1 versus Iowa State in Ames, 4-1 in Fort Worth and 1-0 at neutral sites (2005 Houston Bowl).
  • Iowa State took a 37-23 victory in 2012 in the Horned Frogs' first-ever Big 12 home game. It snapped a 12-game TCU winning streak that was the longest in the nation at the time.
  • Prior to TCU beginning Big 12 play in 2012, the teams had not met since a 27-24 Horned Frogs' victory in the 2005 Houston Bowl.
  • The series began with a 27-10 TCU win in Fort Worth in 1995.

TCU-Iowa State Connections:

  • TCU true freshman starting quarterback Max Duggan is a native of Council Bluffs, Iowa. He played at Lewis Central High School and was the 2018 Iowa Gatorade Player of the Year.
  • TCU head coach Gary Patterson’s first game on the Horned Frogs’ sideline was a 31-21 victory at Iowa State in the 1998 season opener. Patterson was TCU’s defensive coordinator at the time.
  • There are six players from Texas on Iowa State's roster.
  • Duggan is the only player from Iowa on TCU's roster.

Frogs Missing in Action: Receivers Taye Barber, Mikel Barkley, Al'Dontre Davis ad TreVontae Hights have missed recent games due to injuries. Kicker Cole Bunce returned from injury during the Kansas game. Cornerback Noah Daniels suffered a season-ending injury during a summer practice session.

The Line: Iowa State opened as a 2.5-point favorite, and the over-under opened at 48 points. The line has moved to Iowa State as a 3.5-point favorite. The over-under has moved down to 44.5 points.

  • TCU running back Darius Anderson has had three consecutive 100-yard rushing games. He is the first Horned Frog to achieve this since Lonta Hobbs in 2002. Anderson is second in the Big 12 and sixth in the FBS in rushing yards per game at 120.8.
  • Anderson tops all current Horned Frogs with seven career 100-yard games, 2,078 yards and 17 rushing touchdowns. He reached 2,000 career yards in the Kansas game.
  • Anderson is on pace for TCU’s first 1,000-yard season since Kyle Hicks had 1,042 in 2016.
  • TCU is averaging 275.2 yards per game rushing.
  • The 275.2 yards per game rushing is the highest total since 2000, when LaDainian Tomlinson was key in the Horned Frogs averaging 275.6 yards per game.
  • The 275.2 yards per game on the ground ranks eighth nationally.
  • In the SMU game, Max Duggan became the second true freshman and third non-Texan to start at quarterback in the 19-season head coaching era of Patterson.
  • TCU linebacker Garret Wallow is second in the nation in tackles for loss per game and fourth in total tackles.

Important! Security measures at Jack Trice Stadium: Only the following items are permitted into TCU athletic facilities:

  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and not exceeding 14 inches by 14 inches
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
  • One unopened bottle of water
  • Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the stadium with one of the clear plastic bags.

Exceptions are made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at the gates. Backpacks, diaper bags and other similar bags are not be allowed.

2019 Game 6 for TCU: TCU will clash with Kansas State on Saturday, October 19, in Manhattan, Kansas. Kickoff time and broadcast network are still to be determined and announced.
