TCU men’s basketball’s senior guard Desmond Bane has been named to the Wooden Award Preseason Top 50.
The John R. Wooden Award Trophy is presented to "The Outstanding College Basketball Player in the United States." It is given to the player who receives the most points in the annual balloting. The award is selected each year by a hand-selected panel of voters. Voters are college basketball experts selected to collectively represent each of the 50 states.
A candidate's performance in the regular season, conference tournaments and postseason are taken into account by voters, as is the player's character. Duke's Zion Williamson was the Wooden Award winner last season.
It's the third preseason honor for Bane who was also named one of five on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team and one of 20 players on the watch list for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award.
Bane, the Big 12's top returning scorer, averaged 15.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game last season as a junior.
Bane and the Horned Frogs open the season on Thursday, November 7, at 7 pm Central, against Southwestern, in Schollmaier Arena, on the TCU Campus, in Fort Worth, Texas.
