On Monday, November 18, TCU football great Charlie Davis was inducted into the Southwest Conference (SWC) Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremonies were held in the ballroom of the Student Union on the campus of Texas Christian University (TCU), in Fort Worth, Texas.

Also inducted into the Hall of Fame were Mark Adickes of Baylor University, Jeff King of the University of Arkansas, Courtney Hall of Rice University, Gary Hammond of Southern Methodist University, Chalisa Branch of Texas A&M University, James Gray of Texas Tech University, Leroy Burrell of the University of Houston, and Tony Brackens of the University of Texas.

The Southwest Conference Hall of Fame is located within the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, which is located in Waco, Texas.

Davis played football at TCU from 1970-1974. During that time, Davis, who was from Wortham, Texas, was a three-year starter at defensive tackle. He was a captain, a two-time All-SWC pick and made the All-America team as a junior.

Davis was selected to play in the Blue-Gray, North-South Shrine, American Bowl, and Coaches All-American All Star games.

Davis was selected in the ninth round of the 1974 National Football League Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, whose earlier selections in the draft included Lynn Swann, Jack Lambert, John Stallworth and Mike Webster. Because these four players went on to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the 1974 NFL Draft by the Steelers is considered the best "Draft Day" in NFL history.

During Davis' rookie season, 1974, with the Steelers, they won their first Super Bowl.

During his seven-year NFL career, Davis also played with the St. Louis Cardinals (1975-79) and the Houston Oilers (1980). The best game of his career came in the 1975 NFC Divisional Playoffs against the Los Angeles Rams. Davis recorded five sacks and recovered a fumble.

Today, Davis still is active with the NFL. He is president of the NFL Alumni Chapter in Houston, Texas.
