Texas' Previous Game: Texas beat USC 37-14, in Austin, on Saturday, September 15, to raise its season record to 2-1. The game was played in front of a DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium record crowd of 103,507 fans (the attendance surpassed the previous record of 102,315, which watched the Longhorns defeat Notre Dame to begin the 2016 season). The victory was a milestone for Texas, as it was their 900th all-time win. UT is the third FBS program to reach 900 victories, joining Michigan and Ohio State. The 900th win came in Texas' 1,300th all-time varsity contest. Highlights: here

Previous TCU-Texas Game: Eighth-ranked TCU beat Texas 24-7, in Amon G. Carter Stadium, on November 4, 2017. Horned Frogs head coach Gary Patterson coached his 100th home game in The Carter that night.

TCU-Texas Rivalry: The game between TCU and Texas is ofte referred to as "The Battle of the Horns.
  • This will be the 89th meeting between TCU and Texas. UT leads the series (62-25-1), which began with an 18-10 Texas win in 1897.
  • UT won 24 straight over TCU from 1968-91.
  • TCU has won four in a row over Texas, and five of the past six matchups in this series since Gary Patterson’s club joined the Big 12. The average margin of victory in the Frogs’ five wins is 25.4 points.
  • The Longhorns' last victory over TCU in Austin came in 2007, a 34-13 win.
  • The Longhorns own a record of 33-14-1 all-time against TCU in Austin.
  • In 2012, TCU upset Mack Brown and No. 18 Texas, 20-13, in the first Thanksgiving night game in Austin following the demise of the Lone Star Showdown with the Aggies.
  • Brown and Texas returned the favor in Fort Worth in 2013 with a 23-point win (30-7).
  • TCU got the best of the Longhorns (48-10) in Austin on Thanksgiving 2014, in Charlie Strong’s first holiday game.
  • On October 3, 2015, in Fort  Worth, during TCU Homecoming Weekend, the Frogs dominated Texas, 50-7, giving TCU victories in back-to-back seasons over Texas for the first time since 1958-59.
  • On November 25, 2016, in Austin, the Frogs beat Texas 31-9 in Charlie Strong's last game as the Longhorns' coach. The win marked the first three-game winning streak for TCU over the 'Whorns since four straight victories from 1935-38.
  • TCU beat Texas 24-7, in Amon G. Carter Stadium on November 4, 2017. The win marked the first time TCU had been Texas four games in a row since the Frogs won four straight from 1935-38. TCU’s national championships (1935, 1938) were at the front and back ends of that stretch.
  • Texas is TCU’s fourth-most played series. The Horned Frogs’ 88 games with the Longhorns trail only Baylor (113), sMu (98) and Texas A&M (92).
  • One of the more memorable wins in TCU history was a 6-0 victory at No. 1 Texas on November 18, 1961. The TCU victory potentially cost the Longhorns their first national championship. TCU straggled into the game with a 2-4-1 record. Undefeated Texas was ranked No. 1 in the country for the first time since early 1946, and only TCU and Texas a&m stood between the Longhorns and the school's first national championship. TCU scored in the second quarter by reaching into a bag of tricks. At midfeld, TCU quarterback Sonny Gibbs pitched the ball back to his tailback on a fake sweep, got it back, and then heaved a pass to end Buddy Iles, who was hit at the two-yard line and bounced into the end zone.  On its final two drives of the game, Texas began deep in its own territory and never threatened. TCU had a 6-0 upset win. It was the last win of the season for the up-and-down Horned Frogs, who lost to Rice and tied sMu. Texas bounced back to beat a&m, and then Mississippi in the Cotton Bowl. The Longhorns finished third in the country, behind Ohio State, which had lost to TCU early in the season. Alabama won the national title. In 1962, UT coach Darrell K. Royal compared the TCU situation to a cockroach: “It’s not so much what he gets into and carries away but what he falls into and messes up.”

TCU-Texas Connections: There are many connections between TCU and Texas, including:
  • TCU head coach Gary Patterson served in 1987 as the defensive coordinator at Cal Lutheran, alma mater of Texas head coach Tom Herman.
  • On November 4, 2017, when TCU beat Texas 24-7 in The Carter, Horned Frogs head coach Gary Patterson coached his 100th TCU home game.
  • Former TCU Athletics Director Chris Del Conte is the vice president of intercollegiate athletics at Texas. He was named to the position in December 2017. He had been athletic director at TCU for nine years. He stolen Drew Martin from TCU for his Longhorns' staff. Martin is overseeing external matters like marketing and managing the relationship with Longhorn Network. Martin was an associate athletic director for marketing and licensing with the Horned Frogs and had been at the school since April 2012.
  • UT has four players on its roster from Fort Worth: Turner Symonds (#21), of Fort Worth Country Day; Luke Brockermeyer (#46), of All-Saints Episcopal; Byron Vaughns (#50), of Eastern Hills; and Rob Cummins (#99), of All-Saints Episcopal.
  • TCU has two players on its roster from Austin: Ryan McGee (#33), of Vandegrift High School; and Elias Gacia Olague (#35), a transfer from Navarro College.

The run tied for the fourth-longest play from scrimmage in TCU history. The run also is the longest for a college game in AT&T Stadium’s history.
