The national championship trophy was on display at AT&T Stadium during the Ohio State-TCU game.

Before the TCU-Ohio State football game kicked off Saturday night (September 15), a moment of silence was held in honor of Fort Worth police officer Garrett Hull, who had been killed in Fort Worth, in the line of duty, on Friday night, September 14.

TCU's team captains were Ben Banogu (#15), Kellton Hollins (#55), Cordel Iwuagwu (#70) and Ty Summers (#42). The Horned Frogs’ honorary captains were TCU All-Americans Jack Spikes (right)  and LaDainian Tomlinson (second from right). Spikes scored a touchdown in TCU’s 1957 win at Ohio State, while Tomlinson was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame last year and now serves on TCU’s Board of Trustees.

In a game that a young TCU team lost, 40-28, due to mistakes, one mistake was a missed 31-yard field goal by TCU kicker Cole Bunce (#37). If the kick would have been good, the Frogs would have tied the game at 3-3. Prior to the failed kick, another mistake, a holding penalty, had wiped out a TCU touchdown run.

After he missed his field goal attempt, TCU kicker Cole Bunce (#37) was consoled on the sideline by TCU kicker Jonathan Song (#46) and TCU long snapper Donovan Cahill (#50).

(photo above) Another big TCU mistake was a strip-sack on this play of TCU quarterback Shawn Robinson (#3) by Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa (#97) in the end zone.

(photo below) The fumble was recovered by Ohio State defensive tackle Davon Hamilton (#53) and the referees award Ohio State a touchdown, making the score 10-0. The fumble recovery should have been a safety for Ohio State, instead of a touchdown because one of Hamilton's feet was touching out of bounds. So, the ball should have been ruled a dead ball and a safety awarded to Ohio State, rather than a touchdown.

TCU sophomore quarterback Shawn Robinson (#3, photos above and below) led TCU to a 14-13 halftime lead over Ohio State, but the Frogs eventually fell to the Buckeyes, 40-28. Robinson completed 24 of 40 passes for 308 yards and one touchdown. He threw two interceptions, one of which was returned by Ohio State for a touchdown.  Robinson posted career highs in completions, attempts, passing yards, and total offense (315 yards).

TCU running back Darius Anderson (#6) breaks free on an electrifying, 93-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. The run is the longest rushing play in TCU history, bettering the previous mark of 89 yards by LaDainian Tomlinson ,versus UTEP, in 2000, and San Jose State, in 1999. The run is tied for the fourth-longest play from scrimmage in TCU history. The run is the longest play from scrimmage allowed by Ohio State in its history. The run also is the longest for a college game in AT&T Stadium’s history.

TCU running back Darius Anderson (#6) also had a 16-yard, third-quarter scoring run. With 154 yards on 12 carries, Anderson had his fourth career 100-yard rushing game. It was the second-best rushing game of his career, surpassed only by his 160 yards in last season’s 44-31 win at Oklahoma State. Anderson has 11 career rushing touchdowns, most among current Horned Frogs.

TCU running back Sewo Olonilua (#33) had 39 yards rushing on a career-high 14 carries. His six-yard, first-quarter scoring run was his first of the season and ninth of his career.

TCU wide receiver TreVontae Hights (#87) celebrates his 51-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter. TCU wide receiver Jalen Reagor (#1) had seven receptions for 98 yards. He had a 42-yard catch that is his longest of the season. TCU had eight receivers gain more than 10 yards through the air in the game.

TCU had a touchdown on a kickoff nullified on this play by an illegal pass penalty against TCU return man KaVontae Turpin (#25), who on a trick play threw the fielded kick across the field to Jalen Reagor, who had laid down in the end zone. Reagor sped untouched into the end zone, but the referees ruled that the pass had been illegally thrown forward.

Ohio State sophomore quarterback Dwayne Haskins (#7) completed 24 of 38 passes for 344 yards. He threw two touchdown receptions and ran the ball three times for eight yards and one touchdown.

Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins (#2) carried the ball 18 times for 121 yards.

(photos above and below) The Frogs' defense particularly was effective on third down against the Buckeyes. TCU allowed Ohio State to only convert four of 12 third-down plays.

During the hard-hitting game, several Ohio State players, including defensive end Nick Bosa and cornerback Kendall Sheffield (#8, photo below) needed assistance from the Buckeyes' medical staff. Bosa suffered an abdominal/groin injury. He did not play in the second half against TCU and reportedly will miss at least Ohio State's next game, which is Saturday, September 22, against Tulane.

(photos above and below) The TCU-Ohio State game drew a lot of media attention. The game had the highest TV rating of any college football game on any network this season. It was ABC's highest rating for a regular-season game in more than a calendar year. Also, at least 15 pro scouts had credentials for the game.

The quest for glory resumes on Saturday, September 22, when TCU challenges the University of Texas, in Austin. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 pm Central.
