The No. 2 TCU women’s soccer team has reached the final four for the first time in school history.
Senior midfielder Sydney Becerra converted a penalty kick in overtime to give the Horned Frogs a 2-1 victory over No. 1 Vanderbilt in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday, November 29, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Now the Horned Frogs (18-2-3, 9-1-1 Big 12) are two wins away from a national championship.
TCU will play No. 3 Florida State in the NCAA College Cup national semifinals on Friday, December 5, in Kansas City, Missouri.
In the other semifinal game, No. 1 Stanford will play No. 2 Duke.
The championship game will be played on Monday, December 8, at 6 pm (Central).
The three games will be played at Kansas City’s CPKC Stadium.
The Horned Frogs’ game against Florida State will be extra meaningful for TCU head coach Eric Bell, who was hired on December 17, 2011, as the third women’s soccer coach in TCU history.
Prior to coming to TCU, Bell spent the previous six seasons with Florida State. After arriving as an assistant coach in 2006, he was promoted to associate head coach in 2008. Bell was Florida State's recruiting coordinator his entire tenure in Tallahassee.
