TCU Women's Basketball: Frogs Set Record With 80-32 Victory Over Tarleton State

By Tom C. "Midnite" Burke

The names and faces change, but, nonetheless, the TCU women’s basketball team continues to set records in the third year of Mark Campbell’s reign as the Frogs’ head coach.

On Thursday, November 20, the No. 10 Horned Frogs dominated Tarleton State, 80-32, in Schollmaier Arena on the TCU campus in Fort Worth, Texas.

It was TCU’s 28th consecutive home victory, which is a record for consecutive home wins for either a women’s or men’s basketball team at TCU.

Previously, TCU's women’s basketball team had won 27 straight at home across three seasons from 2008-10 (the streak began on January 17, 2008 and concluded on December 22, 2010).

"Just another great win here in Schollmaier Arena," said Campbell about the win over Tarleton State. "Fun and special night for our program. We celebrated Olivia (Miles) for getting on the cover of Slam Magazine, which is really special for her and our program. And then we got our 28th consecutive win here in Schollmaier.

"What's unique about the winning streak that's going on, is that is has spanned all three teams we've had since we've been here. It's really cool that all three teams have contributed to this. Really proud."

The Horned Frogs, which are the oldest and tallest overall team in the country, were led in scoring against Tarleton State by Marta Suarez, who had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Miles and Taylor Digby had 18 points each and Donovyn Hunter had 10 points.

Coming into the game, Miles (17.5 points per game), Suarez (17.5 points per game) and Hunter (16 points per game) were the country's highest-scoring trio, averaging an NCAA-leading 51 points per game.

TCU's win over Tarleton improved the Frogs' record to 5-0 and followed the then-17th-ranked Frogs 69-59 upset win over then-10th-ranked North Carolina State in Raleigh’s James T. Valvano Arena, on Sunday, November 16.

With the loss, Tarleton fell to 2-4.

Head coach Bill Brock is in his third year with the Texans. Previously, Brock won three women's basketball  national championships as a long-time assistant coach at Baylor University in Waco.

TCU's next game is against UTRGV, on Sunday, November 23, at 4 pm (Central), in Schollmaier Arena. It will be the annual Maggie Dixon Classic game. ESPN+ will televise the game.

The Horned Frogs will open Big 12 Conference play at home, against Kansas State, at 4 pm (Central), on Saturday, December 20. ESPN+ will broadcast the game.
