TCU Favored To Beat Iowa State on November 8 in Fort Worth

After a bye on November 1 after a seven-game run, the TCU football team returns to action on Saturday, November 8, when it hosts Big 12 foe Iowa State, in Amon G. Carter Stadium, on the TCU campus, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 pm (Central). FOX will televise the game.

TCU is an early 5.5-point favorite. The over-under for total points scored in the game is 58.

Midnite Madness prediction: TCU 38, Iowa State 27

Following the Iowa State game, TCU will be on the road for two consecutive weeks: against BYU in Provo, Utah, on Saturday, November 15 (9:15 pm Central; ESPN); and in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, November 22, against the University of Houston.

TCU’s final home game of the season will be on Saturday, November 29, against the University of Cincinnati, in Fort Worth.

The Frogs, who are 6-2 overall, 3-2 in the Big 12 Conference, will take a two-game winning streak into the contest with Iowa State.

The Frogs’ two consecutive wins were by six points each. TCU defeated Baylor 42-36 on October 18 and slipped by West Virginia, 23-17, on October 25.

Iowa State is 5-4 overall, 2-4 in the Big 12.

On Saturday November 1, Iowa State lost to Arizona State, 24-19, in Ames, Iowa.

In the first College Football Playoff rankings, released on Tuesday, November 4, BYU is seventh, Texas Tech is eighth and Utah is 13th. 

In the latest Coaches Football Bowl Subdivision top 25 poll, BYU is eighth, Texas Tech ninth, Utah 19th, Cincinnati 25th, Houston 32nd, TCU 34th and Arizona State 37th.

In the new Associated Press (AP) top 25 poll, BYU is eighth, Tech ninth, Utah 17th, Cincinnati 25th, Houston 33rd and Arizona State 36th.

TCU is not included in the AP poll for a second straight week, despite its wins over Baylor and West Virginia.

Iowa State's Season 

Iowa State started the season by winning five straight games. However, the Cyclones will carry a four-game losing streak into its game against TCU. All four games of Iowa State’s losing streak have been to Big 12 teams.

Here are the results of Iowa State’s games this season:

  • August 23: defeated Kansas State 24 -24 in the Aer Lingus Classic, Dublin, Ireland
  • August 30: defeated South Dakota 55-7, in Ames 
  • September 6: defeated Iowa 16-13, in Ames
  • September 13: defeated Arkansas State 24-16, in Jonesboro, Arkansas
  • September 27: defeated Arizona, 39-14, in Ames
  • October 4: lost to Cincinnati, 38-30, in Cincinnati
  • October 11: lost to Colorado, 24-17, in Boulder
  • October 25: lost to BYU 41-27, in Ames
  • November 1: lost to Arizona State 24-19, in Ames

The Cyclones finished 11-3 in 2024 and reached the Big 12 Championship game, where they lost to Arizona State, 45-19.

TCU-Iowa State Series 

This will be the 16th game between TCU and Iowa State.

TCU leads the series, 9-6. However, the Frogs have lost three of their last four games against the Cyclones.

TCU’s latest win in the series was on November 26, 2022, when the Frogs blasted Iowa State 62-14 in Fort Worth, on their way to an undefeated regular season and berths in the Big 12 Conference Championship Game and the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. 

Iowa State’s latest win in the series came on October 7, 2023, when the Cyclones defeated TCU 27-14, in Ames.

TCU and Iowa State did not play each other in 2024.

Iowa State’s head coach, Matt Campbell is in his 10th season of leading the Cyclones. He is the winningest coach in Iowa State football history and the Big 12’s third-longest tenured head coach.

As Iowa State’s head man, he is 69-55 overall, 47-40 in the Big 12.

Iowa State's Offense 

Iowa State’s offense is averaging:

  • 27.89 points per game; 11th in the Big 12
  • 408.1 total yards per game; 10th in the Big 12
  • 164.4 rushing yards per game; eighth in the Big 12
  • 243.5 passing yards per game; fifth in the Big 12

The Cyclones have scored 11 touchdowns through the air and 19 touchdowns on the ground. They have given up 10 sacks and lost four fumbles.

Redshirt-junior quarterback Roco Beht (#3) leads Iowa State’s offense. He has started 36 straight games. It is the longest streak in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) for a quarterback with a single school.

Becht has completed 169-of-273 passes for 2,119 yards. He is averaging 235.44 passing yards per game. He has thrown 11 touchdown passes and seven interceptions. He has a long pass completion of 75 yards.

Becht has run 70 times. He has eight rushing touchdowns and a long run of 19 yards.

Sophomore wide receiver Brett Eskildsen (#9) is Iowa State’s leading receiver. He has caught 22 passes for 414 yards. He is averaging 18.82 yards per catch, and 46 receiving yards per game. He has caught three touchdown passes. He has a long reception of 75 yards.

Junior tight end Benjamin Brahmer (#18) has caught 32 passes for 365 yards. He is averaging 11.41 yards per catch and 40.56 receiving yards per game. He has caught four touchdown passes. He has a long pass reception of 27 yards.

After taking a hard hit in the fourth quarter of ISU's 24-19 loss to Arizona State, the 6-foot-7 Brahmer was carted off the field. He was held in a hospital for observation before being released.

Brahmer is a multi-year starter for the Cyclones. He was an All-Big 12 honorable mention pick in 2023 and 2024.

Redshirt-junior Chase Sowell (#0), who is a transfer from Colorado and East Carolina, has caught 22 passes for 355 yards. He is averaging 16.14 yards per catch and 39.44 receiving yards per game. He has caught one touchdown pass. He has a long reception of 52 yards.

Redshirt-freshman wide receiver Dominic Overby (#11) has caught two touchdown passes.

Redshirt-junior tight end Gabe Burkle (#84) has caught one touchdown pass.

Junior running back Carson Hansen (#26) has rushed 113 times for 613 yards. He is averaging 5.40 yards per carry and 76.62 rushing yards per game. He has four rushing touchdowns and long run of 65 yards.

Junior running back Abu Sama III (#24) has rushed 103 times for 558 yards. He is averaging 5.40 yards per carry and 62 rushing yards per game. He has four rushing touchdowns and a long run of 44 yards.

Redshirt-freshman running back Dylan Lee (#2), freshman quarterback Alex Manske (#7), and redshirt-junior wide receiver, Xavier Townsend (#4), who is a transfer from Cal-Berkeley and UCF, each has one rushing touchdown. 

Iowa State's Defense 

Iowa State’s Defense is allowing:

  • 22 points per game; eighth in the Big 12
  • 366 total yards per game; eighth in the Big 12
  • 212.22 passing yards per game; 10th in the Big 12
  • 153.8 rushing yards per game; 11th in the Big 12

The Cyclones’ have given up 12 touchdowns through the air and 11 touchdowns in the ground.

Iowa State’s defense has intercepted seven passes, forced 11 fumbles and recovered five, and recorded 17 sacks.

Sophomore defensive back Marcus Neal, Jr. (#31) has made 63 tackles, including eight tackles-for-loss and one sack. He has intercepted one pass, broken up three passes and forced one fumble.

Junior linebacker Kooper Ebel (#47) has made 51 tackles, including four tackles-for-loss and one sack. He has one pass breakup and four quarterback-hurries.

Junior defensive back Jamison Patton (#2) has recorded 48 tackles. He has one tackle-for-loss, two interceptions and three pass breakups.

Redshirt-senior linebacker Caleb Bacon (#26) has made 47 tackles, including 5.5 tackles-for-loss. He is credited with three pass breakups and three quarterback-hurries.

Junior defensive back Tre Bell (#7) has recorded four tackles-for-loss. He has intercepted one pass.

Redshirt-senior defensive lineman Tamatoa Mcdonough (#58), who is a transfer from North Carolina Asheville and Yale, has three tackles-for-loss, two sacks and three quarterback hurries.

Redshirt-junior defensive back Jontez Williams (#3), senior defensive back Jeremiah Cooper (#4) and redshirt-sophomore linebacker Nick Reinicke (#51) each has one interception.

Williams and Cooper are on the sideline after suffering season-ending injuries earlier in the season.

Iowa State’s punter is senior Tyler Perkins. He has punted 31 times. He is averaging 43.32 yards per punt. He has not had a punt blocked. He has a long punt of 65 yards.

The Cyclones’ kicker is redshirt-sophomore Kyle Konrardy (#97). He has made 11-of-15 field-goal attempts. He has a long field goal of 63 yards. He has not had a field-goal attempt blocked.
