TCU-Kansas 2021 Football Game Photos

TCU hosted the University of Kansas on November 20, 2021, in Amon G. Carter Stadium. The Frogs beat the Jayhawks, 31-28, to improve to 5-6, 3-5 in the Big 12. Kansas dropped to 2-9, 1-7 in the Big 12.


(photos above and below) Former TCU head football coach Gary Patterson (Coach P) and his wife, Kelsey (Mrs. P), helped honor TCU's senior football players on Senior Day at Amon G. Carter Stadium. Patterson, who is TCU's winningest head football coach, made his first appearance inside Amon G. Carter Stadium since parting ways with the school on October 31.

TCU captains for the game against Kansas were (from left to right) Dominic DiNunzio (#84), Nook Bradford (#28), Dylan Horton (#98) and Max Duggan (#15). It was the first time being a captain for Bradford and DiNunzio, who never played football before arriving at TCU on an ROTC scholarship. The honorary TCU "Block T" captain was Kevin Haney (middle; #3 of 1978).

(photos above and below) TCU's victory over Kansas was the last TCU game to be coached in Amon G. Carter Stadium by interim head football coach Jerry Kill. Kills is 2-1 as TCU's interim head coach, with victories over Kansas and Baylor, and a loss to Oklahoma State. Kill's final regular-season game as the Horned Frogs' interim head football coach will be on Friday, November 26, against Iowa State, in Ames, Iowa.

Max Duggan (#15) started at quarterback against Kansas, despite a broken bone in a foot. He and offensive coordinator Doug Meacham talked through and executed an offensive strategy that totaled 492 yards (326 yards rushing, 166 yards passing) against the Jayhawks. TCU scored for the 366th consecutive game, moving it past Michigan (365, 1984-2014) for the second-longest streak in NCAA history. No. 1 is Florida at 421 games (1988-present). The Horned Frogs haven't been blanked since November 16, 1991, at Texas (32-0).

(photos above and below) TCU quarterback Max Duggan (#15) had a one-yard touchdown run against Kansas in the third quarter. The touchdown and extra point gave TCU a 21-14 lead over the Jayhawks. Duggan's touchdown run came on a fourth-and-goal play. The rushing touchdown was Duggan's third of the season and 19th of his career, the most among current Horned Frogs.

In the victory over Kansas, TCU running back Kendre Miller (#33) ran 12 times for 112 yards and one touchdown. This was Miller's third 100-yard effort in his last six games. Miller has four 100-yard performances in his career. Against Kansas, TCU had a 100-yard rusher, Miller, and a 100-yard receiver (103 yards,Derius Davis) for the first time since the 2020 regular-season finale when Miller (136 yards) and running back Zach Evans (130 yards) topped 100 yards rushing and wide receiver Quentin Johnston had 133 receiving yards against Louisiana Tech.

(photos above and below) TCU senior running back Emari Demercado (#3), playing in his final game in Amon G. Carter Stadium, rushed for 89 yards on 18 carries. The 89 yards were one shy of his career best of 90 rushing yards in the November 13 game against Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Demercado also scored a rushing touchdown in the win over Kansas.

He also rushed three times for 52 yards.  Against the Jayhawks, TCU had a 100-yard receiver (Davis) and a 100-yard rusher, Miller (112 rushing yards), for the first time since the 2020 regular-season finale when Miller (136 yards) and running back Zach Evans (130 yards) topped 100 yards rushing and wide receiver Quentin Johnston had 133 receiving yards against Louisiana Tech.

TCU receiver/returner Derius Davis (#11) on this play scored a 43-yard rushing touchdown against Kansas, less than five minutes into the game. Davis had 52 net rushing yards on three carries.

Kicker Griffin Kell (#39), punter/holder Jordy Sandy (#31), long-snapper Antonio Ortiz (#49) and other Horned Frogs celebrate Kell's game-winning 25-yard field goal. For the season, Kell has converted 14-of-18 field goal attempts.

TCU defensive end Dylan Horton (#98) sacks Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels (#6). The sack was Horton's third of the season, ranking him second on the team, behind defensive end Ochaun Mathis' four sacks. TCU's defense sacked Daniels twice.

Members of TCU's defense, including defensive end Khair Coleman (#11), defensive end Ochaun Mathis (#32) and defensive tackle Terrell Cooper (#95) surround Kansas quarterback Jalon Davis (#6). TCU's defense sacked Davis twice, intercepted him once and limited him to 37 rushing yards. Davis completed 22-of-30 passes for 255 yards.

He had a two-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Against the Jayhawks, Winters had a team-best eight tackles and recorded his second interception of the season, tying him with Hodges-Tomlinson for the team lead.

(photos above and below) In the second quarter, TCU's defense stopped a Kansas drive and forced the Jayhawks to attempt a 45-yard field goal, which kicker Jacob Borcila missed. The Frogs won the game by three points, on a field goal by Griffin Kell with six seconds remaining in the contest.

He threw two touchdown passes, both coming in the fourth quarter when the Jayhawks roared back from a 14-point deficit to tie the game at 28-28, with less than five minutes remaining.

In the second quarter, Kansas running back Devin Neal (#4) scored a touchdown on a two-yard run. The touchdown and extra point gave the Jayhawks a 14-7 lead over TCU.

In the fourth quarter against the Horned Frogs, Kansas wide receiver Luke Grimm (#11) caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels. Things looked grim for the Jayhhawks when Grimm was shaken up on the play, but he was able to walk off the field unaided.

Kansas fullback Jared Casey (#47) eluded TCU linebacker Shadrach Banks (#19) to catch a pass from Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels. Against the Horned Frogs, Casey caught four passes for 34 yards and one touchdown.

(photos above and below) Against the Horned Frogs, Kansas wide receiver Kwamie Lassiter II (#8) caught eight passes for 101 yards, despite the efforts of TCU linebacker Shadrach Banks (#19), safety Nook Bradford (#28) and cornerback Kee'yon Stewart (#2).

Kansas running back Amauri Pesek-Hickson (#23) ran nine times for 28 yards in the Jayhawks 31-28 loss to the Horned Frogs.

Pressure by the Kansas defense forces TCU quarterback Max Duggan (#15) to fumble, but the Frogs recovered the loose football.

Kansas defensive end Kyron Johnson (#15) had one of the Jayhawks' two sacks of TCU quarterback Max Duggan (#15).

(photos above and below) Pressure from Kansas defenders Nick Channel (#41) and Cam'Ron Dabney (#16) caused TCU receiver/returner Derius Davis (#11) to fumble a punt. Channel recovered the fumble.

Injuries caused TCU quarterback Chandler Morris (#14) and wide receiver Quentin Johnston (#1) to miss TCU's game against Kansas.

Because of an injury, TCU safety T.J. Carter (#7) missed TCU's game against Kansas.

TCU running back Zach Evans' turf-toe injury kept him out of TCU's game against Kansas, He reportedly is out for the rest of the season.

TCU kicker Griffin Kell enjoys his 15 minutes of fame. Kell kicked a 25-yard field goal with six seconds remaining in the game to give TCU a 31-28 victory over Kansas. TCU will play its last regular-season game of 2021 on Friday, November 26, against Iowa State, in Ames, Iowa. The Horned Frogs need a victory over the Cyclones to even their record at 6-6 and become bowl-eligible.
