TCU's captains for the game were Terrell Cooper (#95), Steve Avila (#79), Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson (#1) and Emari Demercado (#3). The Block T honorary captain was former TCU linebacker David Hawthorne (middle), who during his playing days wore #46. His "GP" shirt was worn in honor of former TCU head football coach Gary Patterson.

Safeties coach Paul Gonzales signaled, in secrecy, the defense on the field. The Frogs' defense held Baylor to 393 total yards of offense and 28 points. Coming into the game, the Bears ranked second in the Big 12 with an average of 465.5 yards of offense per game and third in the conference with an average of 37.4 points scored per game. Against the Bears, the Horned Frogs' defense totaled seven tackles for loss from six different players.

(photos above and below) TCU redshirt freshman quarterback Chandler Morris (#14), talking with TCU interim head coach Jerry Kill (photo above) and on the telephone (photo below) with offensive coaches in the coaching booth, started his first game at TCU against Baylor. Morris, who is from Highland Park High School, transferred from the University of Oklahoma to TCU prior to this season. Prior to the Baylor game, his most significant action as a Horned Frog came when he played the second half the prior Saturday in the Frogs' 31-12 loss to Kansas State, in Manhattan, Kansas.

(photos above and below) TCU backup quarterback Chandler Morris, who wears the same jersey number (14) as Horned Frogs quarterback Andy Dalton did during his star-studded tenure at TCU, made his first career start this past Saturday against Baylor. He had 531 total yards of offense, with 461 yards of the total coming through the air on 29 pass completions out of 41 attempts. The 531 yards of total offense are the second-most in TCU history. It trails only the 696 total yards that TCU quarterback Matt Vogler totaled against Houston in 1990. The 461 passing yards are the fourth-most in a game in TCU history. Morris became the first TCU quarterback to pass for 400 yards since Kenny Hill, his quarterbacks coach, threw for 449 yards against Oklahoma in 2016. He threw two touchdown passes. He did not throw an interception. He was sacked once. Morris' performance earned him Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors.

A dejected TCU kicker Griffin Kell (#39), accompanied by holder/punter Jordy Sandy (#31), leaves the field after missing a 34-yard field goal with less than two minutes left in the game, giving Baylor an opportunity to win the game with a field goal of its own. TCU's defense rose to the occasion to preserve the victory for the Frogs. In the third quarter, Kell had a 37-yard field-goal attempt blocked, which ended his streak of 11 consecutive made field-goal attempts, tying Nick Browne (2002) for the eighth-longest field-goal streak in TCU history.

With 1:03 left in the game and Baylor driving for a potential game-winning field goal or touchdown, TCU freshman linebacker Shadrach Banks (#19), a converted wide receiver,  intercepted a pass from Baylor quarterback Gerry Bohanon to preserve TCU's 30-28 victory.

It's the seventh time the Horned Frogs have received the honor from the FWAA, and the first since 2017. The Horned Frogs have won six of the last seven meetings with Baylor and are 7-3 against the Bears in Big 12 play. TCU is 10-4 versus Baylor since the Southwest Conference dissolved after the 1995 season.

After playing Big 12 foe Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Saturday, November 13, the Horned Frogs will play their final home game of the 2021 season against Kansas, on Saturday, November 20. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 pm (Central). It will be an emotional farewell for TCU interim head football coach Jerry Kill, the TCU coaching staff and TCU senior football players.
