West Virginia has beaten: Eastern Kentucky, 56-10, in Morgantown; Baylor, 27-21 (2OT), in Morgantown; Kansas, 38-17, in Morgantown; and Kansas State, 37-10, in Morgantown. 

In addition to the loss to Texas, the Mountaineers have lost to Oklahoma State, 27-13, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech, 34-27, in Lubbock, Texas.

TCU-West Virginia Rivalry:

  • TCU and West Virginia joined the Big 12 together on July 1, 2012.
  • TCU and West Virginia have met nine times on the football field. The Mountaineers lead the series, 5-4.
  • TCU and West Virginia first met in the 1984 Bluebonnet Bowl in Houston, Texas. The Mountaineers won that game, 31-14. It was TCU's first bowl game since 1965. The Frogs were in the Southwest Conference. The Mountaineers were a football Independent.
  • Since the two teams have been in the Big 12, they have met eight times. Each team has won four games. 
  • TCU is 2-2 versus the Mountaineers in Morgantown, 2-2 in Fort Worth, and 0-1 at neutral sites.

  • Gary Patterson is in his 20th season as head coach of the Horned Frogs. He is TCU’s winningest football coach with a record of 175-73. Patterson has won 22 national coach of the year honors. His 20 seasons make him the nation's second-longest tenured head coach.  
  • Patterson has 200 overall wins as a Horned Frog. He has 175 victories as a head coach. Before becoming the head coach, he was part of 25 wins as the team's defensive coordinator (1998-2000). TCU is 200-83 with Patterson on its sideline.
  • Patterson is 42-37 against conference opponents since TCU joined the Big 12 Conference in 2012. 
  • Patterson's 175 victories are the most by an active head coach at his current school.  
  • TCU is one of just seven programs nationally to finish in the top 10 of the final polls at least three times (2014, 2015, 2017) in the last six seasons. The others are Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Penn State.

  • TCU running back Darwin Barlow is averaging 50.6 rushing yards per conference game, which is ninth in the Big 12. He has three rushing touchdowns and a long run of 74 yards.
  • Wide receiver Taye Barber is averaging 44 receiving yards per Big 12 game, which is 15th in the conference. He is the only Horned Frogs receiver in the conference's top 25 receivers. In Big 12 games, he has caught 30 passes for 308 yards. He has two touchdown receptions and a long catch of 30 yards.
  • The Frogs are allowing 25.9 points per game, which is fifth in the conference.
  • Defensively, TCU is allowing 356.9 total yards per game, which is fourth in the Big 12.
  • The TCU defense is allowing allowing 223.9 passing yards per game, which is fourth in the conference.
  • The Horned Frogs are allowing 133 rushing yards per game, which is fifth in the Big 12.

  • Safety La'Kendrick Van Zandt is tied with nine other players for second in the conference with two interceptions. Two players share the lead with three interceptions each.
  • TCU punter Jordy Sandy is third in the Big 12 in punting. He has punted 41 times for an average of 42.8 yards per punt. He has a long punt of 55 yards.
  • Derius Davis ranks second nationally in punt-return average at 21.8 yards, a mark on pace to break the TCU season record of 20.8, which was set last year by Philadelphia Eagles' first-round pick Jalen Reagor.  

Frogs Missing in Action: TCU reportedly has less than 60 scholarship players available. Nearly 30 players are out because of injuries, the transfer portal or opting out of this COVID-19 season.
 
Freshman running back Kendre Miller is questionable for the West Virginia game because of an undisclosed injury. He previously missed the Baylor and Texas Tech games. Redshirt freshman running back Daimarqua Foster is questionable. He missed the Tech game because of an undisclosed injury he suffered in the Baylor game. Senior defensive lineman Corey Bethley is out for the season because of a knee injury he suffered during the week of the Baylor game. Junior cornerback Noah Daniels is out for the season because of  an unspecified right leg injury he suffered in the Oklahoma game. Junior offensive guard Wes Harris suffered a broken jaw in the Oklahoma game and will miss the remainder of the season. Senior tight end Artayvious Lynn is out for the season because of an unspecified injury. Wide receiver/returner JD Spielman is out for the remainder of the season because of an unspecified injury. Wide receiver John Stephens, Jr., has entered the transfer portal. Previously, three-star freshman quarterback Eli Williams and wide receivers Dylan Thomas, Te'Vailance Hunt and Al’Dontre Davis entered the portal. Senior defensive tackle Brandon Bowen has opted out of the remainder of the season.

West Virginia Notables:

  • Neal Brown is in his second year as head coach of West Virginia. He took over in 2019, replacing Dana Holgerson, who took the head coaching job of the Houston Cougars.
  • Prior to joining West Virginia, Brown was head coach at Troy, 2015-2018.
  • Before taking over at Troy, Brown was Kentucky's offensive coordinator, 2013-2014.
  • Brown was Texas Tech's offensive coordinator, 2010-2012. In 2012, Texas Tech beat TCU, 56-53, in three overtimes, in Fort Worth.
  • Brown went 5-7 in his first year of leading the Mountaineers. He is 4-3 this season, 3-3 in the Big 12.
  • Brown is 1-0 against TCU head coach Gary Patterson. West Virginia beat TCU, 20-17, in Fort Worth in the last game of the 2019 season. The Mountaineers' win denied Patterson and the Frogs of a winning season and bowl game.
  • West Virginia this season has won its four home games.

  • Brown is one of three coaches in the Big 12 Conference whom Patterson has not beaten. The other two are Kansas State’s Chris Klieman and Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley.

Their father, Gary Stills, was an All-Big East standout linebacker at West Virginia for Hall of Fame Coach Don Nehlen, before a successful nine-year NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens and St. Louis Rams.

  • Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton (#0) has caught 22 passes for 356 yards and three touchdowns. His per-game average of 50.9 yards receiving is 10th in the Big 12. He has a long reception of 38 yards.
  • Sophomore wide receiver Ali Jennings (#19) and redshirt tight end T.J. Banks (#85) each have caught a touchdown pass.
  • Junior running back Leddie Brown (#4) has rushed 141 times for 741 yards. He is averaging 5.3 yards per carry and 105.9 yards rushing per game, which is second in the Big 12. He has nine rushing touchdowns and a long run of 87 yards.
  • Redshirt junior running back Alec Sinkfield (#20) has carried the football 68 times for 338 yards and three touchdowns. He has a long run of 36 yards.
  • West Virginia's offense has allowed 13 sacks and has fumbled the football 13 times, losing six of the fumbles to opponents.
  • West Virginia's opponents have scored 136 points in 2020; 33 in the first quarter; 51 in the second quarter; 17 in the third quarter; 28 in the fourth quarter; and seven points in overtime periods.

ESPN College GameDay Location on November 14, 2020: ESPN “College GameDay” on Saturday, November 14, will be at the Augusta National Golf Club, home to The Masters, which is taking place November 12-15, in Augusta, Georgia. The studio will be staged overlooking Ike’s Pond and the 9th green of the Par 3 course. 
 
During the college football season, GameDay airs live on ESPN on Saturdays, from 8 to 11 am (Central). GameDay features Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, David Pollack and Maria Taylor.

2020 Game 8 for TCU: TCU has a bye on Saturday, November 21. The Frogs will leave Texas for the second and final time this regular season to play the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence, Kansas, on Saturday, November 28. Time and TV to be announced.
