Previous TCU-Texas Game: During the 2019 season, TCU entered its seventh game of the season with a 3-3 record. In Amon G. Carter Stadium, in a Homecoming game on Saturday, October 26, the Frogs defeated 15th ranked Texas, 37-27. TCU freshman quarterback Max Duggan threw for a career-high 273 yards, tossed a pair of touchdowns and scored one on the ground. TCU totaled 435 yards of offense; 273 yards through the air and 162 yards on the ground. The Frogs' defense intercepted four passes, the team's most in a regular-season game since notching four at Texas in 2014. The win was TCU's fifth in the last six games with the Longhorns. For the game, the Frogs wore for the first time a fierce purple helmet, an anthracite jersey and anthracite pants.

TCU-Texas Rivalry:

  • In 2019, TCU beat Texas for the fifth time in six seasons.
  • The Frogs are 6-2 against the Longhorns since joining the Big 12 Conference in 2012, including 3-1 in Austin.
  • TCU head coach Gary Patterson is 6-3 against Texas. Since 1996, he ranks No. 1 in the nation among all head coaches past and present (minimum 5 games) in career winning percentage (.667, 6-3) against Texas.
  • This will be the 91st meeting between TCU and Texas. UT leads the series, 63-26-1. The series began with an 18-10 Texas win in 1897.
  • Texas won 24 straight over TCU from 1968-1991.
  • In 2012, TCU upset Mack Brown and No. 18 Texas, 20-13, in the first Thanksgiving night game in Austin following the demise of the Lone Star showdown with the Texas A&M Aggies, who bolted for the Southeastern Conference.
  • Texas is TCU's fourth-most played series, trailing only series with Baylor (115), SMU (99) and Texas A&M (92).
  • One of the more memorable wins in TCU football history was a 6-0 victory at No. 1 Texas on November 18, 1961. The TCU victory potentially cost the Longhorns their first national championship. TCU straggled into the game with a 2-4-1 record. Undefeated Texas was ranked No. 1 in the country for the first time since early 1946, and only TCU and Texas A&M stood between the Longhorns and the school's first national championship. TCU scored in the second quarter by reaching into a bag of tricks. At midfeld, TCU quarterback Sonny Gibbs pitched the ball back to his tailback on a fake sweep, got it back, and then heaved a pass to end Buddy Iles, who was hit at the two-yard line and bounced into the end zone.  On its final two drives of the game, Texas began deep in its own territory and never threatened. TCU had a 6-0 upset win. It was the last win of the season for the up-and-down Horned Frogs, who lost to Rice and tied sMu. Texas bounced back to beat a&m, and then Mississippi in the Cotton Bowl. The Longhorns finished third in the country, behind Ohio State, which had lost to TCU early in the season. Alabama won the national title. In 1962, UT coach Darrell K. Royal compared the TCU situation to a cockroach: “It’s not so much what he gets into and carries away but what he falls into and messes up.”

  • Last year, the Frogs finished 5-7 overall and 3-6 in the Big 12. TCU finished the season 11-2, 7-0 in the Mountain West Conference (MWC). The Frogs won their third straight MWC championship. Herman’s three-year 25-15 record  was a nine-win improvement on Texas’ record from the three years prior to his arrival (16-21) in Austin. That ranks as the second-best improvement by a Longhorn head coach during his first three seasons in charge (12 wins, Darrell Royal - 1957-59).

He helped the Buckeyes win the 2015 College Football Championship (following the 2014 season) with wins over Alabama and Oregon, and a Big Ten Championship with a win over Wisconsin.
  • At the request of the Jamail family, Joe Jamail Field has been renamed in honor of Longhorn Legends and Heisman Trophy winners Earl Campbell (1974-77) and Ricky Williams (1995-98). The field at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium was originally named after Joe Jamail in 1997 to honor the lifelong Longhorn's immense contributions to The University of Texas' athletic department.
  • Campbell, the famed "Tyler Rose," holds a special place in The University of Texas and state of Texas' football history. As a senior at UT in 1977, Campbell became the first Longhorn to win the Heisman Trophy after he rushed for 1,744 yards – a Southwest Conference record that stood for 16 years – and 19 touchdowns. He led the nation in rushing and scoring, and posted a pair of 200-yard games on the road against Texas A&M (222 yards) and SMU (213 yards). • Texas is 9-4 in non-conference games, including bowl games, under Herman. That includes a 5-2 mark at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

  • Texas is 11-2 at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium since the start of the 2018 season and 14-5 overall during Herman's tenure as head coach.

  • In five games at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium last season, the Longhorns averaged 39.2 points per game and racked up 2,597 yards of total offense (519.4 pg). UT was 4-1 on its home turf in 2019, falling only seven points in a shootout against the eventual national champions, LSU.
  • Texas' 10 wins in Austin across the 2018-19 seasons mark the first time the Longhorns have won at least 10 home games in a two-year stretch since 2008-09.
  • The Longhorns had lost three-straight home games and five of their last seven at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium before Herman arrived for the 2017 season. That stretch included a 2-5 record in Big 12 contests.
  • UT is located in Austin, Texas, which is within Travis County. The county has confirmed nearly 30,000 coronavirus cases and almost 500 virus-related deaths during the pandemic.
  • Because of the pandemic, Texas is limiting the number of fans allowed into DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, which normally holds nearly 101,000 for football games. Attendance at the UT's season-opener against UTEP was just under 16,000.
