Baylor, Again, Voted to Win Big 12 Women's Basketball Regular Season Championship in 2021

For the 11th time since 2006, Baylor has been selected to win the 2021-22 Big 12 women’s basketball regular season crown, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.

The Bears received seven first place votes (coaches are not allowed to vote for their own teams).

Baylor has tied or won 12 regular-season titles, including the last 11.

The Bears are going into this season without longtime head coach Kim Mulkey, who was lured to LSU after the 2020. Mulkey took over the Baylor women's basketball program in 2000. Under her leadership, Baylor won three NCAA Championships, in 2005, 2012, and 2019. She led the Bears to 11 Big 12 regular season titles and 10 Big 12 tournament titles.

Baylor's new head coach is Nicki Collen. Prior to Baylor, Collen was head coach of the WNBA Atlanta Dream from 2018 to 2020. She was selected WNBA Coach of the Year in 2018.

Iowa State and Texas tied for second in the balloting of the coaches. The Longhorns received two first-place votes. The Cyclones received one first-place vote.

West Virginia is in fourth place, followed by Oklahoma in fifth, TCU in sixth and Oklahoma State in seventh. Kansas State and Texas Tech tied for eighth. Kansas finished 10th in the voting.

The 2021-22 season opens on Tuesday, November 9, with a full slate of non-conference games. Big 12 play begins on Sunday, January 2.
