Regular-Season Game 10 of TCU’s 2020 Football Season: TCU Horned Frogs (5-4, 5-4 Big 12) versus Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (5-3, 4-2 Conference USA): Saturday, December 12, 2020; 6 pm (Central); Amon G. The game against LA Tech replaces TCU’s scheduled September 11 season-opener against crosstown rival SMU. The Frogs had to postpone that game because of a COVID outbreak on the team.

There were discussions about TCU and SMU playing each other during the regular season, but the game never materialized.

TCU Uniform Combination for the Game: The Horned Frogs will wear a purple-and-black helmet, purple-and-black jersey and black pants.

Last Home Game for Seniors: TCU's official Senior Day celebration was held last Saturday, December 5, prior to TCU's victory over Oklahoma State. But this game against Louisiana Tech will be the eight seniors' last home game of their careers, unless they decided to return for another year, which the NCAA is allowing because of the cornoavirus pandemic's effect on the 2020 season. 2020 Fan Experience for TCU Football at Amon G. Carter Stadium: To provide the safest environment for fans to enjoy TCU football this fall during the COVID-19 pandemic:

  • Tailgating is prohibited in all Frog Club lots and spaces. Lots open three hours prior to kick off and close following the game.
  • Frog Alley has been moved to Stadium Drive.
  • Amon G. Carter Stadium gates open two hours prior to kick off.
  • TCU has transitioned to mobile-only ticketing for the 2020 football season. This shift provides a safer, contactless ticketing environment. Fans will receive their tickets via email, allowing them to download tickets into their Apple Wallet (iPhone) or Google Pay Wallet (Android). Prior to reaching the gates, ticket holders open their digital wallet, select the game tickets and hold their phone near the ticket scanner.
  • All fans have their temperature taken and complete a brief health screening questionnaire (acknowledge that you are symptom free) prior to entering Amon G. Carter Stadium and Frog Alley. Gate and temperature check locations: here
  • Face Coverings (over the nose and mouth) are required to be worn by everyone outside and within the stadium. Tarrant County has a face mask mandate in order through the end of the year.
  • A refusal to comply with the 2020 TCU Football health and safety guidelines may result in removal from the stadium and/or loss of ticket privileges to future home games.
  • No guest service carts or shuttles.
  • The suggested entrance gate near your seat is noted on your mobile ticket.
  • Social distancing markers are in place at gates, concessions and restrooms. 
  • Hand sanitation stations are throughout the stadium.
  • Elevators operate under state mandates of no more than four passengers and an operator.
  • There are cashless concessions and merchandise transactions.
  • Concession items predominately are prepackaged and sealed, with limited selections.
  • Beer is served in sealed containers.
  • There is no in-seat concession hawking.
  • Concession locations vary based on crowd size.
  • All premium buffets are staff-served. 
  • Tables in common areas and premium clubs are spaced appropriately.
  • Multiple clean teams continually clean common areas. 
  • Employees are screened prior to entering the facility and are required to wear a face covering.

TCU's Previous Game: On Saturday, December 5, in Amon G. Carter Stadium, in Fort Worth, Texas, TCU upset then 15th-ranked Oklahoma State, 29-22.

Previously, TCU had: lost, 37-34, to Iowa State, in Fort Worth; beaten Texas, 33-31, in Austin, Texas; lost, 21-14, to Kansas State, in Fort Worth; lost to Oklahoma, 33-14, in Fort Worth; beaten Baylor, 33-23, in Waco, Texas; beaten Texas Tech, 34-18, in Fort Worth; lost to West Virginia, 24-6, in Morgantown, West Virginia; and beaten Kansas, 59-, in Lawrence, Kansas.

Louisiana Tech's Previous Game: On Thursday, December 3, in Denton, Texas, Louisiana Tech beat North Texas, 42-31, for its fifth victory of the season. The game had been rescheduled from November 7.

Previously, Louisiana Tech had beaten: Southern Miss, 31-30; Houston Baptist, 66-38; UTEP, 21-17; and UAB, 37-34 (2OT).

The Bulldogs have been beaten by: BYU, 45-14; Marshall 35-17; and UTSA, 27-26.

Louisiana Tech had its season-opener against Baylor canceled. The Bulldogs also have had games against Louisiana Monroe and Florida International canceled. A November 14 scheduled game against Rice was postponed, but has not been rescheduled.

Previous TCU-Louisiana Tech Game: TCU and Louisiana Tech have played once, in the 2011 Poinsettia Bowl, in San Diego, California. The Frogs defeated the Bulldogs, 31-24, as TCU quarterback Casey Pachall threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Skye Dawson with 4:26 left in the game. 

TCU-Louisiana Tech Rivalry: 

  • The game against Conference USA’s LA Tech Bulldogs replaces TCU’s scheduled September 11 season-opener against crosstown rival SMU. There were ongoing discussions about TCU and SMU playing each other during the regular season, but the game never materialized.  
  • TCU and Louisiana Tech have played once, in the 2011 Poinsettia Bowl, in San Diego, California. The Frogs defeated the Bulldogs, 31-24, as TCU quarterback Casey Pachall threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Skye Dawson with 4:26 left in the game.
  • The victory in the Poinsettia Bowl was the 109th for Patterson, which tied him with Dutch Meyer (1934-52) for the most football victories in school history. Patterson broke the record in the 2012 season opener, with a 56-0 win over Grambling State. 
  • The Poinsettia Bowl game was TCU’s final game as a member of the Mountain West Conference. The Horned Frogs began Big 12 play in 2012.

 TCU-Louisiana Tech Connections:

  • Louisiana Tech is in Conference USA.
  • TCU used to be in Conference USA. After the Southwest Conference broke up and TCU was not invited to join the realigned Big 12, the Frogs were in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) from 1996-2000. In 2001, TCU joined Conference USA (C-USA) and remained in the conference until the school joined the Mountain West Conference (MWC) in 2005.
  • TCU's football team shared the 2002 Conference USA title with the University of Cincinnati. Both teams had a conference record of 6-2.
  • TCU's director of high school relations is Brett Lemoine, who ha sbeen with the Frogs since 2017. He previously was offensive coordinator (2004-16) at Neville High School in Monroe, Louisiana.
  • Louisiana Tech has 28 players from Texas on its roster, including several from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

  • TCU's game against Oklahoma State last Saturday was Gary Patterson's 251st as head coach of the Horned Frogs.
  • Patterson's record at TCU is 177-74. 
  • Patterson is the second-longest tenured coach at his current school in the FBS, trailing only Kirk Ferentz at the University of Iowa.
  • With the win over Oklahoma State, TCU finished its 2020 Big 12 season with a 5-4 record, the team's first winning conference record since 2017, when the Frogs went 7-2 during an 11-3 overall season. In 2018, TCU had a 4-5 conference record. In 2019, the Frogs' Big 12 record was 3-6.
  • This past Saturday, December 5, was the 10th anniversary of the implosion of the upper deck of the west side of Amon G. Carter Stadium, whose continued transformation on the east side has made it one of the finest collegiate football stadiums in the country. Watch the 2010 implosion: here
  • TCU's win over then 15th-ranked Oklahoma was its second win of the season over a ranked team. Earlier, TCU beat then ninth-ranked Texas, 33-31, in Austin.
  • Eight of the Horned Frogs’ 10 scheduled contests in 2020 were in state. The Frogs only traveled out of state to play West Virginia and Kansas.
  • TCU is 28-27 versus ranked teams under Patterson. 
  • The Horned Frogs are 91-27 in 20 seasons under Patterson at Amon G. Carter Stadium.  
  • The Horned Frogs are 46-8 in home night games under Patterson.
  • TCU is averaging 28.4 points per game, which is fifth in the Big 12.
  • TCU is seventh in the Big 12 in total offense, averaging 401.8 yards per game.

  • Sophomore quarterback Max Duggan is seventh in the Big 12 in rushing. He has run 112 times for 513 yards. He has scored nine rushing touchdown and has a long run of 81 yards. 
  • With 427 yards on 69 rushes, redshirt freshman running back Darwin Barlow is 14th in the Big 12. He has four rushing touchdowns and a long run of 74 yards.  
  • True freshman running back Zach Evans is 29th is the BIG 12 with 285 rushing yards on 47 carries. He has two rushing touchdowns and a long run of 33 yards.  
  • True freshman running back Kendre Miller is 21st in the conference with 252 rushing yards on 42 carries. He has a long run of 28 yards.  
  • TCU is eighth in the conference in passing offense, averaging 200.2 passing yards per games. 
  • Duggan is eighth in the Big 12 in passing. He has completed 136-of-227 passes for 1,635 yards. He has thrown nine touchdown passes and four interceptions. He has a long completion of 71 yards.  
  • True freshman wide receiver Quentin Johnston is 15th in the Big 12 with 354 receiving yards on 17 receptions. He has caught one touchdown pass and has a long reception of 58 yards.
  • Junior wide receiver Taye Barber ranks 20th in the Big 12. He has caught 30 passes for 320 yards and two touchdowns. He has a long reception of 30 yards. 
  • The Frogs are fifth in total defense in the Big 12, allowing an average of 362.8 total yards per game. 
  • TCU is fifth in the Big 12 in scoring defense, allowing an average of 25.8 points per game. 
  • Over the past five games, TCU has allowed 20.6 points a game.
  • The Horned Frogs allow 135.9 yards per game rushing, which is fifth in the Big 12.
  • The Frogs also are fifth in passing defense in the conference, allowing 226.9 passing yards per game. 
  • TCU senior linebacker Garret Wallow is second in the Big 12 with an average of 8.6 tackles per game. He has 77 total tackles and two sacks.
  • Against Oklahoma State, Wallow had a team-best 11 tackles, including one for loss, to put him in double figures for the fifth time in the last seven games and 15th time in his career.  
  • Wallow has been named a semifinalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy.
  • Dee Winters is 13th in the conference with an average of 6.6 tackles per game. He has 59 total tackles and two sacks. 
  • Against Oklahoma State, Winters set a career high with 10 tackles.
  • Sophomore defensive end Ochaun Mathis is fifth in the Big 12. He has seven sacks, for an average of .78 per game. His seven sacks rank fourth in the Big 12. 
  • Freshman defensive end Khari Coleman has three sacks. He ranks 16th in the conference. 
  • Against Oklahoma State, Coleman recorded two tackles for loss to give him 13.5 on the season, the most among freshmen nationally. He has at least one tackle for loss in eight of his nine games this season.
  • Redshirt defensive tackle Earl Barquet has 2.5 sacks. 
  • Sophomore linebacker Dee Winters has two sacks. 
  • Senior safety Trevon Moehrig and junior safety La’Kendrick Van Zandt lead the Frogs with two interceptions each. 
  • Against Oklahoma State, Moehrig contributed six tackles, two pass breakups and an interception, which was his second of the season and seventh of his career.
  • Moehrig, who has been named a semi-finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award and the Chuck Bednarik Award, which are two of the top national defensive awards, has recorded back-to-back seasons with multiple interceptions (four in 2019, two in 2020), becoming the first Horned Frog to do so since 2020 NFL first-round draft pick Jeff Gladney (two in 2017, two in 2018).
  • Against Oklahoma State, sophomore cornerback Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson tied his career high with three pass breakups in the opening half. He leads the team with 13 pass breakups this season, the second most in the country and tops among Power 5 players.  
  • In the game against Oklahoma State, for the first time in 20 seasons with Patterson as head coach, and for the first time since 1996, TCU had two 100-yard receivers and an 100-yard rusher: junior Derius Davis, 139 receiving yards; true freshman Quentin Johnston, 114 receiving yards; and Duggan, 104 rushing yards
  • Davis and Johnston became the first pair of TCU pass-catchers to top 100 yards receiving in a game since November 7, 2015, when Shaun Nixon (146) and KaVontae Turpin (107) did the same, also against Oklahoma State.
  • The career-high 139 yards receiving on a career-best six receptions by Davis were the most by a Horned Frog since Jalen Reagor had 150 yards at West Virginia in 2018.   
  • A 71-yard Duggan-to-Davis touchdown pass in the Oklahoma State game was TCU’s longest pass play since the 2017 Alamo Bowl, when Kenny Hill hit Reagor for a 93-yard score.
  • Against Oklahoma State Duggan totaled 369 yards of offense (265 passing, 104 rushing), the second-best game of his career. He had 398 total yards at Texas Tech last year.
  • Against the Cowboys, Duggan posted the third 100-yard rushing game of his career, tying Trevone Boykin (2012-15) for the most by a quarterback in TCU history.
  • Duggan had two scoring runs against Oklahoma State, giving him a team-best nine on the season. His 15 career rushing scores are the most among current Horned Frogs.
  •  Duggan’s nine rushing touchdowns this season are the most by a TCU quarterback since Kenny Hill had 10 in 2016. Duggan is second in TCU history for the most rushing touchdowns in a season by a quarterback since joining the Big 12 (Trevon Boykin, 9, 2015; Hill, 10, 2016).
  • Duggan is the first TCU quarterback in the Patterson era with two 100-yard rushing games in the same season.
  • Against Oklahoma State, Duggan had the two-longest completions of his career with the 71-yard touchdown pass to Davis and a 58-yard completion to Johnston.
  • Johnston set a career high with 114 receiving yards on three catches. It was his first-career 100-yard receiving day.

  • Louisiana Tech is part of the University of Louisiana System.
  • The school is located in Ruston, Louisiana, which is located between Shreveport, Louisiana, and Vicksburg, Mississippi, off of Interstate 20. 
  • The school has about About 8,200 undergraduate students.
  • Skip Holtz is Louisiana Tech's head football coach.
  • Holtz is the son of former Notre Dame head coach Lou Holtz.
  • Holtz is in his eighth year as the head coach at Louisiana Tech. He was named the school's 33rd head football coach on December 14, 2012.
  • In his seven years at LA Tech, Holtz has amassed 56 victories, which is the third most in program history.
  • In 2019, Holtz guided LA Tech to a 10-win season, which marked the first time since 1984 that the program produced double-digit victories.   • Prior to Louisiana Tech, Holtz had spent the past three seasons as the head football coach at the University of South Florida. He also served as the head coach at the University of Connecticut and East Carolina University
  • The Bulldogs are the only team in the nation to win six consecutive bowl games from 2014 to 2019 (tied for fifth longest in FBS history).

  • Redshirt senior running back Israel Tucker (#22) leads the team in rushing. He has run 119 times for 497 yards, an average of 62.13 yards per game. He has scored four rushing touchdowns and has a long run of 31 yards.
  • In LA Tech's victory over North Texas, Tucker had 161 rushing yards on 37 carries. His performance earned him Conference USA Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors.
  • Redshirt senior Justin Henderson (#33) was second on the team in rushing, with 252 yards on 75 carries. In late November he opted out of the remainder of the season and declared for the 2021 NFL Draft.
  • The Bulldogs have played two quarterbacks: graduate transfer Luke Anthony (#9) and redshirt sophomore Aaron Allen (#3). Both are passing quarterbacks, with limited running ability.
  • Anthony, who transferred from Abilene Christian, has completed 123-of-196 passes for 1,318 yards. He has thrown 15 touchdown passes and five interceptions. He has a long completion of 66 yards. 
  • Allen has completed 58-of-86 passes for 530 yards. He has thrown four touchdown passes and three interceptions. He has a long completion of 31 yards.  
  • In late November, Adrian Hardy, who was the Bulldogs' leading receiver, opted out of the remainder of the season and declared for 2021 NFL Draft. But LA Tech has no shortage of receivers.
  • Louisiana Tech's leading receiver now is five-foot-six-inch, 184-pound Smoke Harris (#5), who is a redshirt sophomore. He has caught 30 passes for 263 yards and four touchdowns. He has a long reception of 66 yards.
  • Redshirt junior wide receiver Griffin Hebert (#80) has caught 17 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns. He has a long reception of 50 yards. 
  • Redshirt senior wide receiver Cee Jay Powell (#0) has 28 receptions for 218 yards. He has long reception of 23 yards.
  • Redshirt junior wide receiver Jawaun Johnson (#8) has caught 14 passes. He has two touchdown-receptions and a long catch of 41 yards.
  • Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Wayne Toussant (#86) has caught 11 passes. He has two touchdowns and a long reception of 44 yards.
  • Redshirt senior wide receiver Isaiah Graham (#13) has 14 receptions. He has caught three touchdown passes and has a long reception of 37 yards. 
  • Redshirt freshman wide receiver Kyle Maxwell (#88) has nine receptions. He has caught two passes for touchdowns and has a long reception of 18 yards. 
  • Redshirt junior fullback Jacob Adams (#45) has caught a touchdown pass.
  • Louisiana Tech's defense is giving up 416.4 yards per game and 32.13 points a game.
  • Opponents have rushed for 1,328 yards, an average of 166 yards per game. They have scored 16 touchdowns on the ground against the Bulldogs.
  • Through the air, LA Tech's opponents have gained 2,003 yards on 169 completions in 266 attempts. Opponents are averaging 250.38 yards per game through the air. 
  • The Bulldogs' defense has intercepted nine passes, forced six fumbles (recovered four), and recorded 14 sacks.

  • Redshirt senior linebacker Ezekiel Barnett (#46) has 42 total tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss and two interceptions. 
  • Redshirt defensive lineman Milton Williams (#97) has 10 tackles-for-loss and 4.5 sacks. 
  • Redshirt junior defensive back Jaiden Cole (#7) has two tackles-for-loss and two sacks. 
  • Junior linebacker Levi Bell (#55) has 3.5 tackles-for-loss and 1.5 sacks.

  • The Bulldogs' punter is redshirt freshman Jacob Barnes (#35). He is averaging 36.92 yards per punt. He has a long punt of 53 yards and has not had a punt blocked.
  • Barnes also kicks field goals. He has made 10-of-11 attempts and has been named to the 2020 Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-American Watch List. His longest made field goal has been from 51 yards. He has not had a kick blocked.

Amon G. Carter Stadium: The 2012 season marked the opening of TCU's Amon G. Carter Stadium after a $164 million renovation completely funded through donor support. The six new Founders Club suites, located at midfield on the concourse level, were sold at $15 million each to provide lead gifts totaling $90 million. On the west side of the stadium, there are 25 suites, all of which are sold. 

2020 marks the introduction of the $100-million Amon G. Carter Stadium premium seating expansion. The project added two new levels of luxury seating above the existing upper deck on the east side of the stadium. The new Legends Club and Suites include 48 loge boxes with two private clubs, over 1,000 club seats and 22 luxury suites.

Important! Security measures at TCU Athletic Events: Only the following items are permitted into TCU athletic facilities:
 

  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and not exceeding 14 inches by 14 inches 
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
  • One unopened bottle of water
  • Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the stadium with one of the clear plastic bags.
  • Exceptions are made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at the stadium gates.
  • Backpacks, diaper bags and other similar bags are not be allowed.
     
ESPN College GameDay for December 12, 2020: ESPN GameDay will be on the campus of West Point, in West Point, New York, on Saturday, December 12, for the Army-Navy game. In this unprecedented season, the Army-Navy Game presented by USAA will be hosted in Michie Stadium on the campus of Army West Point for the first time since 1943. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 pm Central. The game will be broadcast by CBS. 2020 marks the seventh-straight year that GameDay has attended the Army-Navy game, attending the last six-straight contests in Philadelphia and Baltimore. During the college football season, GameDay airs live on ESPN on Saturdays, from 8 to 11 am (Central). GameDay features Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, David Pollack and Maria Taylor.
