Second 2020-21 College Football Playoff Ranking

 

 

The second 2020-21 College Football Playoff ranking was revealed on Tuesday, December 1. 

The College Football Playoff selection committee ranks the teams based on the members’ evaluation of the teams’ performance on the field, using conference championships won, strength of schedule, head-to-head results, and comparison of results against common opponents to decide among teams that are comparable.

2020-2021 College Football Playoff Rankings: The College Football Playoff Selection Committee meets in person to produce interim rankings before Selection Day. During each meeting, the selection committee ranks 25 teams. 

The 2020 ranking dates are: Tuesday, November 24; Tuesday, December 1; Tuesday, December 8; Tuesday, December 15; and the final ranking on Sunday, December 20. 

 

Selection Committee Members: Garty Barta (chair), director of athletics, University of Iowa; Paola Boivin, professor, Arizona State University; Tom Burman, director of athletics, University of Wyoming; Joe Castiglione, director of athletics, University of Oklahoma; Rick George, director of athletics, University of Colorado; Ken Hatfield, former head football coach of three FBS institutions; Ronnie Lott, former All-American, USC; Terry Mohajir, director of athletics, Arkansas State University; Ray Odierno, former chief of staff, United State Army; R.C. Slocum, interim athletics director, former head football coach, Texas A&M; Todd Stansbury, director of athletics, Georgia Tech; Scott Stricklin, director of athletics, University of Florida; and John Urschel, former All-American, Penn State University. 

 

The kickoff of the new year belongs to college football, with two College Football Playoff semifinal games rotating annually among the Cotton Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl. 

 

The two teams winning the playoff semifinals compete for the College Football Playoff National Championship. That game is in a different city each year, always on a Monday night.

2020-21 College Football Playoff Championship Game (Rose Bowl champion vs. Sugar Bowl champion):

2020-21 College Football Playoff Semifinals: 

 

• Northwestern Mutual Rose Bowl, Rose Bowl Stadium, Pasadena, California, January 1, 2021, at 3 pm CT.
• Allstate Sugar Bowl, Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana, January 1, 2021, at 7:30 pm CT.

• Cotton Bowl, December 30, Dallas, Texas.
• Peach Bowl, January 1, 2021, Atlanta, Georgia.
• Orange Bowl, January 2, 2021, Miami Gardens, Florida.

Sites for Future College Championship Games: Indianapolis is scheduled to host the 2021-22 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, followed by Los Angeles, and Houston.
