TCU played on Black Friday for the fourth time in five season. West Virginia defeated TCU, 20-17, making Brown the first coach to defeat the Frogs in a Black Friday game and the second new coach this season to defeat Patterson and the Frogs. Earlier in the season, Kansas State and its new coach, Chris Klieman, defeated Patterson and TCU, 24-17. With the loss to West Virginia, the Frogs ended the 2019 season with an overall record of 5-7, and a Big 12 record of 3-6. TCU failed to qualify for a bowl game for the third itme in Patterson's 19 years as the Frogs' head coach.
TCU head coach Gary Patterson visits with referees who worked the TCU-West Virginia game on November 29. Patterson has not been happy with officials this year, particularly those who worked the Frogs' games against Baylor and Oklahoma, both of which TCU lost by close scores. In fact, six of TCU's seven losses during the 2019 season were by seven points or less. Ony Iowa State beat the Frogs (49-24) by more than seven points.

TCU's captains for the West Virginia game were (from left to right) Jalen Reagor (#1), Cordel Iwuagwu (#70), Kenneth Davis (honorary captain), Ross Blacklock (#90) and Garret Wallow (#30). It was the fourth straight game that the captains were Reagor, Iwuagwu, Blacklock and Wallow. Davis, who was known as the "Temple Tornado", was a running back at TCU from 1982-85, including the 1984 team, which lost to West Virginia in the Bluebonnet Bowl. For the 1984 season, Davis finished fifth in voting for the Heisman Trophy. Davis left TCU second in school history in rushing yards (2,904) and rushing touchdowns (24). Davis missed all but the first game of his senior season when he was suspended, along with six teammates, by head coach Jim Wacker after confessing he received cash payments from boosters. Davis was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the second round of the 1986 National Football League (NFL) Draft. During his nine-year NFL career, he also played for the Buffalo Bills.
On "Black Friday," it was a "Black Out" for the game against West Virginia. TCU players wore a black helmet, a black jersey and black pants.

Since TCU's offense has struggled for two consecutive years, many Horned Frogs fans are wondering if the West Virginia game was the last time Cumbie will be TCU's play-caller. Curtis Luper is TCU's other co-offensive coordinator. He also coaches the team's running backs.
In the Horned Frogs' season finale against West Virgina, TCU freshman quarterback Max Duggan (#15, photos above and below) completed 15 of 36 passes for 144 yards. He threw no touchdown passes and two interceptions. TCU running back Darius Anderson (#6, photo below) caught one pass for 10 yards.

Against West Virginia, TCU quarterback Max Duggan (#15) ran only eight times for 23 yards. He had a long run of 13 yards. He did not have a rushing touchdown.
Coming into the game with the Horned Frogs, West Virginia's defense had recorded 31 sacks, second in the Big 12 and 24th nationally. TCU quarterback Max Duggan (#15, photos above and below) only was sacked twice by the Mountaineers. West Virginia defensive lineman Dante Stills (#55, photos above and below) recorded one of the sacks.

In his final game as a Horned Frog, senior running back Sewo Olonilua (#33, photos above and below) scored a two-yard touchdown in the first quarter against West Virginia. The score and extra point tied the game at 7-7.  The touchdown was his team-best and career-high eighth rushing touchdown of the season. It was his 18th career rushing score, tying Darius Anderson for most among current Horned Frogs. Olonilua carried the football 14 times for 30 yards in the 20-17 loss to the Mountaineers. He caught two passes for six yards. TCU center Coy McMillon (#69) signals the touchdown. Offensive tackle Austin Myers (#56), tight end Pro Wells (#81), wide receiver Jalen Reagor (#1) and offensive guard Cordel Iwuagwu (#70) are ready to celebrate with Olonilua. Days after the West Virginia game, Wells was named to the All-Big 12 second team, and Iwuagwu was named All-Big 12 honorable mention.

Against West Virginia, TCU senior running back Darius Anderson (#6) rushed for 31 yards on 10 carries. He caught one pass for 10 yards. He didn't score against the Mountaineers in his final game as a Horned Frog. Days after the West Virginia game, Anderson was named All-Big 12 honorable mention.
In the third quarter of the West Virginia game, TCU junior receiver/returner Jalen Reagor (#1, photos above and below) returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown. The touchdown and extra point put TCU ahead, 17-10. Unfortunately, those were the last points TCU scored in a 20-17 loss to the Mountaineers. And, the touchdown was the final one in Reagor's TCU career. Only days after the loss to West Virginia, Reagor announced that he would be an early entrant in the 2020 National Football League Draft. He is projected to be selected in the first or second round of the draft. This was Reagor's second punt return touchdown of the season. He is the first Horned Frog with two punt returns for touchdowns in the same season since Jeremy Kerley in 2009. He is one of two players nationally with two punt returns for touchdowns this season. Reagor had 312 punt return yards this season, the most by a Horned Frog since Cameron Echols-Luper had 349 in 2014. Days after the West Virginia game, Reagor was named to the All-Big 12 second team.

TCU senior running back Sewo Olonilua (#33) provides interference for sophomore wide receiver Taye Barber (#4), who runs for yardage against West Virginia. Barber rushed two times for 69 yards and caught three passes for 20 yards. Barber had a career-long 64 yard run. It was TCU's second-longest carry of the season and the longest by a wide receiver since Jalen Reagor's 83-yard touchdown run against Oklahoma State last season. Days after the West Virginia game, Barber was named All-Big 12 honorable mention.
In the West Virginia game, TCU senior kicker Jonathan Song (#46) converted his final field goal as a Horned Frog. The 30-yard kick gave the Horned Frogs a 10-7 lead over the Mountaineers. Song finished 23-of-24 on field goal attempts this season, and 40-of-44 in his career. He was 39-of-40 on attempts of 40 yards and less. Song's 23 field goals tie him for second-most in a season at TCU, matching Michael Reeder (1995) and Nick Browne (2002). The record is 28 by Browne in 2003. Song is the seventh player in TCU history with 40 field goals in a career. Days after the West Virginia game, Song was named to the All-Big 12 first team.
TCU head coach Gary Patterson (black shirt and visor, top and bottom photos) and the Horned Frogs' defense held West Virginia to 244 total yards of offense. The Mountaineers had 158 yards passing and 86 yards rushing. The Frogs intercepted three passes and recorded two sacks. This was the sixth time this season that TCU had held an opponent to less than 300 yards of offense, but on two of those occasions, this game and the game against Baylor, the Frogs suffered losses. Patterson now is 101-12 in games of those types. The Frogs' three interceptions gave them 16 for the season, their most since 2014 (26). This was TCU's fourth game this season with mutiple interceptions. TCU's defense now has at least one sack in 79 of its last 82 games.

In the West Virginia game, Wallow had a team-best 12 tackles, including three tackles for a loss, to top TCU for the 10th time in 12 games this season. Wallow recorded double-digit stops for the 10th time in his career and the seventh time this season, including four of the last five games. Wallow's 12 tackles gave him 205 in his career, the most among active Horned Frogs. He finished the season with 125 tackles, the fourth-best total in the 19-year TCU head coaching era of Gary Patterson. Days after the West Virginia game, Wallow was named to the All-Big 12 first team.

(photos above and below) With less than four minutes remaining in the game and with TCU leading 17-13, TCU junior defensive tackle Ross Blacklock (#90) received a roughing-the-passer penalty on a third-down-and-12 play that was an incomplete pass and would have had West Virginia facing a fourth down. Blacklock also was cited for targeting on the play, resulting in his disqualification from the game. The penalty gave West Virginia a first down at the TCU 35-yard line. Two plays later, with 2:42 remaining in the game, West Virginia scored the winning touchdown. Days after the West Virginia game, Blacklock was named to the All-Big 12 first team.
