The recent inductees into the TCU Lettermen's Hall of Fame were honored during the TCU-SMU game. This year’s class features Shannon Brazzell (football), Tony Jeffery (football), Jill Sutton-Dodd (women’s basketball), Brooke Tull (women’s golf) and Phil Turner (baseball).

As if the rivalry between TCU and SMU was not intense enough, the Ponies showed up at the September 28 game with "Dallas" on their jerseys, instead of "SMU." The Fort Worth-vs-Dallas theme was further emphasized when Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price and Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson participated in the coin toss prior to the game's kickoff.
Furthermore, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price and Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson participated in the pre-game coin toss. And they made a friendly wager, as a result of which Mayor Johnson will be receiving from Mayor Price some of Fort Worth's Heim barbecue. If the Frogs would have won, Mayor Price would have received from May Johnson some of Dallas' Pecan Lodge barbecue.
To top it off, on the Wednesday after the game, the Dallas City Council, at its meeting, honored the Mustangs, er, "Dallas," for defeating TCU. The Iron Skillet even was displayed in the Council's chambers. Watch here, if you think you can stomach it.
TCU's captains for the SMU game were (from left to right) Ross Blacklock (#90), Alex Delton (#16), former TCU football player W.C. Nix (honorary captain), Jalen Reagor (#1) and Garret Wallow (#30).
TCU players wore purple helmets, purple jerseys and black pants.
Here come the Frogs!
Here come the Mustangs!
TCU defensive tackle Ross Blacklock (#90, center) and other defensive players were enthusiastic during pre-game warm-ups, but could not carry forth the effort throughout the game with the SMU Mustangs. The Horned Frogs' defense gave up 41 points and allowed 426 yards of total offense.
(photos above and below) Throughout the contest with SMU, TCU head coach Gary Patterson instructed and tried to inspire TCU defensive players, including (above, left to right) Ochaun Mathis, Shameik Blackshear and Corey Bethley, and (below) Dee Winters (#13).
(photos above and below) During pregame and the first half of the game with SMU, TCU head coach Gary Patterson wore a black shirt. At halftime he changed his wardrobe. During the second half, he was clad in a purple shirt. The purple shirt worked some, but the Frogs could not overcome their poor play in the first half.
SMU receivers did a good job catching passes, even when cornerback Jeff Gladney (#12) and other Frog defenders had tight coverage. SMU had 288 passing yards against the Frogs' defense.
TCU linebacker Garret Wallow (#30) helped the TCU defense hold SMU to 118 net rushing yards. Wallow had a team-best and career-high 19 tackles, including 2.5 for a loss. Wallow's 19 tackles are the most by a TCU player since Travin Howard totaled 19 against Texas Tech in 2016. Wallow ranks No 1 nationally in tackles for loss per game (3) and is No. 3 in tackles per game (14). He has 42 stops on the season, including nine tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
SMU quaterback Shane Buechele (#7) completed 23 of 34 passes against the Frogs for 288 yards and two touchdowns.

SMU running back Xavier Jones (#5, above) had 79 yards rushing against the Frogs. Fellow running back Ke'Mon Freeman (#2, below) was held to 27 yards. Both Jones and Freeman had rushing touchdowns in the 41-38 upset of the Frogs.
TCU co-offensive coordinators Sonny Cumbie (white hat, photo above) and Curtis Luper (white shirt, photo below) worked with TCU offensive players throughout the SMU game. The Horned Frogs responded by ougaining the Mustangs, 424 total yards to 406 total yards.
TCU players in the two photos include: quarterback Max Duggan (#15), receiver Jalen Reagor (#1), receiver Te'Vailance Hunt (#9), quarterback Justin Rogers (#13), receiver Taye Barber (#4), receiver Dylan Thomas (#11), running back Emari Demercado (#3) and injured receiver Trevontae Hights (#87).
(photos above and below) In the SMU game, TCU true freshman quarterback Max Duggan (#15) became the second true freshman and third non-Texan to start at quarterback in the 19-season head coaching era of Patterson. Duggan completed 15-of-26 passes for 166 yards and three touchdowns in the second half. Shawn Robinson was the first true freshman to start a game, against Texas Tech, on November 18, 2017, in Lubbock.
(photos above and below) TCU true freshman quarterback Max Duggan (#15) completed one of 10 passes in the first half against SMU and on this play he lost a fumble. Duggan had a better second half. He ended the game with 16-of-36 completions for 188 yards and three touchdowns.
At the end of the loss to SMU, TCU quarterback Max Duggan (#15) is consoled by TCU sophomore receiver John Stephens, Jr. (#7), redshirt freshman center Esteban Avila (#79) and freshman offensive tackle Andrew Coker (#74).
(photos above and Below) TCU senior running back Darius Anderson (#6) rushed for 161 yards on 19 carries against SMU. He also scored two rushing touchdowns. Anderson has had consecutive 100-yard rushing games and is averaging nine yards per carry this season. His 179 yards at Purdue and 161 against SMU represent the top-two efforts of his career. Only nine times (by seven different players) has a Horned Frog surpassed 160 yards rushing in back-to-back games
Against SMU, TCU senior running back Sewo Olonilua (#33) had a catch for a touchdown (photo above). He carried the football (photo below) only five times, for just seven yards.
(photos above and below) Against SMU, TCU sophomore tight end Pro Wells had two receptions, both of which went for touchdowns.
TCU quarterback Alex Delton (#16), who started TCU's first two games of the season, was on the bench for all but one play, in the second half, in the SMU game.
