TCU's Dixon, Miles Lead USA Basketball to Gold

 


The USA Men's U19 World Cup Team defeated France 83-81 in the championship game of the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup, in Riga, Latvia, on Sunday July 11, earning TCU’s Jamie Dixon and Mile Miles gold medals.

Dixon, head coach of TCU's men's basketball team, was head coach of the USA team. 

Miles, who was a freshman guard on the 2020 TCU men's basketball team, was a member of the USA team.

Miles had 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists, four steals and no turnovers in the championship game. He finished the seven games of international play with an average of 9.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists.
 
In its history, USA men's teams have won eight gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal, compiling an 105-14 overall record in U19 World Cup play since the event was launched in 1979. The USA has won five of the past seven U19 golds since 2009. 
 
This year’s gold medal was Dixon’s second. He also was the team’s head coach when it won the event’s gold medal in 2009.
