TCU Baseball Wins Fort Worth Super Regional, Earns College World Series Berth in Omaha

TCU Baseball is headed to Omaha, Nebraska, again for the 2023 NCAA College World Series (CWS).

This is TCU's sixth trip to the College World Series and the first since 2017. It also is the Frogs' first CWS appearance under second-year head coach Kirk Saarloos.

The Horned Frogs will be joined in the 2023 World Series at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha by No. 1-seed Wake Forest, No. 2-seed Florida, No. 5-seed LSU, No. 7-seed Virginia, Oral Roberts, Stanford and Tennessee.

TCU is in a four-team bracket with Florida, Virginia and Oral Roberts.

TCU's first game will be against Oral Roberts, at 1 pm CT, on Friday, June 16. ESPN will televise the game.

The other four-team CWS bracket is Wake Forest, LSU, Stanford and Tennessee.

Oral Roberts, which is a small evangelical school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and whose baseball team is a member of the low-major Summit League, is making its first College World Series appearance since 1978.

Oral Roberts was a four-seed in the Stillwater, Oklahoma, regional, and is the lowest seed to reach the College World Series since Stony Brook in 2012. The Golden Eagles won the Stillwater regional by beating Oklahoma State, Washington and Dallas Baptist. Oral Roberts beat the University of Oregon, two-games-to-one, in the Eugene, Oregon, Super Regional.

Oral Roberts' Josh Cox has a 47-game hitting streak and has had a hit in all but one of Oral Roberts' games this season.

TCU earned its World Series berth by sweeping two games over 14th-national-seed Indiana State in the Fort Worth Super Regional. On Friday, June 9, TCU beat the Sycamores 4-1. On Saturday, June 10, the Horned Frogs won 6-4, in front of a record crowd of 8,994 at Lupton Stadium. It is the largest crowd ever for a college baseball game in Texas.

Indiana State qualified for a Super Regional by winning the Terra Haute regional it hosted the prior week. As a national seed, Indiana State had qualified to host a Super Regional in Terra Haute, but because of logistical and staffing concerns, the Sycamores declined the hosting role and traveled to Fort Worth.

TCU qualified for a Super Regional by winning a regional tournament hosted by Arkansas in Fayettville, Arkansas, the prior weekend. TCU won the regional by beating Arizona and Arkansas twice. The Pigs were a third seed nationally.

TCU is now 63-42 all-time in NCAA postseason play. TCU improved to 13-8 in NCAA Super Regional play, including a mark of 8-2 at Lupton Stadium.

TCU participated in the College World Series in 2010, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, under the leadership of then-head coach Jim Schlossnagle. The Frogs' best finish in the tournament has been third place.

TCU goes into this year's College World Series on an 11-game winning streak, which is its longest since it won 11 straight in 2021.

The opening ceremonies of the College World Series are scheduled for Thursday, June 15.

The best-two-out-of-three championship series between the winners of the two brackets is scheduled for Saturday, June 24, Sunday, June 25, and, if necessary, Monday, June 26.
