2020-21 College Football Playoff Information

Here is information about the 2020-21 College Football Playoff. Of course, the coronavirus pandemic could have an impact on the 2020 college football season and the 2020-21 College Football Playoff.

The College Football Playoff selection committee ranks the teams based on the members’ evaluation of the teams’ performance on the field, using conference championships won, strength of schedule, head-to-head results, and comparison of results against common opponents to decide among teams that are comparable.
 

The kickoff of the new year belongs to college football, with two semifinal games rotating annually among the Cotton Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl.
 

The two teams winning the playoff semifinals compete for the College Football Playoff National Championship. That game is in a different city each year, always on a Monday night.

 

2020-2021 College Football Playoff Rankings: Each fall, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee meets in person to produce interim rankings before Selection Day. During each meeting, the selection committee ranks 25 teams. 

The 2020 ranking dates are: Tuesday, November 17; Tuesday, November 24; Tuesday, December 1; Tuesday, December 8; and Tuesday, December 15. The selection show is scheduled to be held on Sunday, December 20.

Slocum, interim athletics director, former head football coach, Texas A&M; Todd Stansbury, director of athletics, Georgia Tech; Scott Stricklin, director of athletics, University of Florida; and John Urschel, former All-American, Penn State University.

2020-21 College Football Playoff Championship Game (Rose Bowl champion vs. Sugar Bowl champion):

2020-21 College Football Playoff Semifinals: 

 

• Northwestern Mutual Rose Bowl, Rose Bowl Stadium, Pasadena, California, January 1, 2021, at 3 pm CT.
• Allstate Sugar Bowl, Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana, January 1, 2021, at 7:30 pm CT.

Sites for Future College Championship Games: Indianapolis is scheduled to host the 2021-22 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, followed by Los Angeles, and Houston.
