TCU's Anderson Signs with Dallas Cowboys as Undrafted Free Agent

TCU running back Darius Anderson has signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent. 

In the seven rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft that were held virtually April 23-25, the Frogs had five players drafted from a 2019 Horned Frogs football team that finished 5-7 overall and in seventh place in the Big 12 with a 3-6 conference record. TCU did not qualify for a bowl game for the third time in Patterson’s 19-year TCU head-coaching career. The other two times were after the 2004 and 2013 seasons. 

TCU's five draft picks were the most of any Big 12 team. 

The 2019 season was one of mediocrity for the Big 12, with only four teams winning at least eight games. TCU was one of four Big 12 teams that did not qualify for a bowl game. 

TCU wide receiver/returner Jalen Reagor and cornerback Jeff Gladney were selected Thursday night (April 23) in the draft's first round by the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings, respectively. 

The Eagles made Reagor the 21st overall pick in the historic draft that is being held virtually over several days because of the COVID-19 virus pandemic. The Vikings took Gladney with the 31st selection. 

It is the first time since the 1939 NFL draft that the Horned Frogs have had two players taken in the draft's first round. 

TCU defensive end Ross Blacklock was selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft on Friday night, April 24. He was selected 40th by the Houston Texans. 

TCU offensive tackle Lucas Niang was selected in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft on Friday night. He was selected 96th by the Kansas City Chiefs, who are the reigning Super Bowl champions.

This was the first time ever that TCU had four players selected through three rounds of the draft.

TCU safety Vernon Scott was selected in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft on Saturday afternoon, April 25. He was selected 236th by the Green Bay Packers. 

As a senior during the 2019 season, Anderson led TCU in rushing with 823 yards. He had six rushing touchdowns and a stretch of three consecutive 100-yard rushing games. He had a season-long 77-yard run against SMU. 

Anderson's senior season earned him Honorable-Mention All-Big 12 honors and a Senior Bowl invitation. 

As a junior during the 2018 season, Anderson had 598 yards rushing, playing in 11 games. He had 154 rushing yards on 12 carries against Ohio State. His 93-yard scoring run against the Buckeyes was the longest rushing play in TCU history, bettering the previous mark of 89 yards by LaDainian Tomlinson versus UTEP in 2000 and San Jose State in 1999. The run was the longest play from scrimmage allowed by Ohio State in its history. 

In 2017, as a sophomore, Anderson played in 11 games and led TCU with 768 rushing yards on 128 carries. He scored eight touchdowns.

As a true freshman in 2016, Anderson rushed for 229 yards on 27 carries. His first career touchdown was a 70-yard run at Texas. He finished that game with 103 rushing yards.

Hights played during the 2019 season as a graduate student. He had a career-best game with eight receptions for 108 yards in the season-opening victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. 

As a junior during the 2018 season, Hights played in nine games. He caught a 51-yard touchdown pass in the game against Ohio State at AT&T Stadium.

In 2017, as a sophomore, he saw action in 13 games. He caught a 56-yard touchdown pass in the win over Jackson State.

As a senior during the 2019 season, Iwuagwu started all 12 games for the Frogs at left guard on the offensive line. He was one of two Horned Frogs on the offensive line to start every game at the same position. He was a team captain in 10 games, including the season’s final nine games. 

In 2018, as a junior, Iwuagwu started the season’s opening four games at left guard, but missed the next eight games because of injury. He returned to action in the Frogs’ Cheez-It Bowl victory over Cal.  

In 2017, as a sophomore, he started all 14 games at left guard. In 2016, as a redshirt freshman, Iwuagwu played in eight games, with two starts.



TCU's McKinney Signs with Tennessee Titans as Undrafted Free Agent


As an anchor on the TCU offensive line, tackle Anthony McKinney (#68) cleared lanes for TCU's running backs, including Darius Anderson (#6).

As a senior in 2019, Olonilua led the Frogs with eight rushing touchdowns. 

Olonilua’s best season was in 2018 when he rushed for a team-high 635 yards and two touchdowns. His best performance came in the Cheez-It Bowl, where he rushed for 194 yards on 32 carries in the Frogs’ 10-7 win over Cal. He was named Most Valuable Player in the game.

For his career, Olonilua appeared in 52 games, rushing for 1,624 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also caught 60 passes for 383 yards and two touchdowns.
